Anyone having any luck with 55 gr BT's in a 243?

A friend is bugging me to change out a barrel on a 700 mountain rifle to a 22-250. I'm thinking that he might be able to accurately shoot 55 gr BT's & cure the issue. The rifle is a factory (I'm assuming) 1-10 twist and has been accurized & shooting very well.

I haven't shot them in my 243 but have in my 10 twist 243wssm. They shoot about 3/4" and the 58vmax just a fuzz better.

Yes.

I think my Pre-64 M70 Featherweight is a 1/10 twist.

I have found on these older rifles with slower twist:
Shorter/Lighter is better
Faster is better
Let them cool as heat is of course the enemy

Lately, I've been shooting Berger 65 Flat Base but have some V-Max with loads worked up. Works for me.

It shoots factory copper 80TSX just fine.

You didn't say what the rounds are for so I assume varmint.

If it were me, go with 58 to 75 V-Max if you can get them.

Run your bullet of choice through http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmstab-5.1.cgi and go with 1.4 or more.

My factory savage and rem.700 love the 55gr. actually they shoot them better than any other weight bullet. I use Lapua brass, Varget Powder and FedGM primer. Also had really good accuracy with H414 and the 58gr. Vmax. But the H414 was just to temp. sensitive so I went back to varget.

The 55 NBT & 55g CT are my base loads for coyote in my 243, 1/9.5" twist and they print under .700 in my sporter at 100 yds.
I run them in my 6x6.8 at 3400-3500 fp, s 1/10" twist and they also print an average of .600" in that AR15.

I shoot the 55's in my 243. I basically shoot the sierra 55 flat base. I have a slower twist in my rifle, but it is a tuned Remington action with a muzzle break. It was built by RD Precision. I am pushing 4000 FPS. This load is devastating on woodchucks here in Pennsylvania. My groups at 100 yards are always around 1/2 an inch. Doesn't seem to get any better, but no worse either. Mild recoil, and when you hit one of those buggers they feel nothing.
