Tell me where I'm going wrong...
Brand new on the forum, and pretty new to serious rifle shooting in my adult life. Did a bunch of .22 shooting in my younger days, and some other military rifles.
I've got an 18" AR that I am trying to make as multi-purpose as possible, but it's starting to look like I will have 2 AR's. The 18" I will have my Vortex 6-18x40, and use it for longer range (200+ yd) shooting. I am looking at some 14.5" AR's for CQB use; going out to the desert and doing sub 50-yd and a lot of sub 25yd shooting at an improvised multi-target tactical range.
Enough context, here's the question...
I'm debating on going with a 1x red dot or a 3x prism scope for my "CQB AR". I think I will get more / better use from a prism scope, and looking seriously at the Primary Arms SLx 3x32mm Gen III because I'm really intrigued with the ACSS reticle. I am also looking at the Sig, and Vortex Spitfire II, but their reticles don't seem as useful.
- Does anyone have the PA optic on their AR?
- Does the 3x zoom, smaller eye box, 3" eye relief prevent you from shooting / acquiring targets rapidly? I want something that is about as easy as possible to stay on target with when shooting rapidly.
- Does this usage type really only go with a red dot for quick shooting sub 25 yds?
- In the real world, how well does this (or any 3x prism optic ) do at 200+ yds?
I know that's a bit of puking a word salad, but looking for opinions on what I give up with going with one or the other - 1x vs 3x, red dot vs prism.
Thanks!
