Anyone have experience with a 1:10, 5R barrel?

Rebarreling the remington 700 in .308 and considering this option. I like the 1:10 for the heavier 175 SMK and 178 Amax. Figured i would go with 5R since it will be made by Obermeyer who invented it. Im not totally sold on the benifits 5R rifling offers in a practical sense but If Boots is making my barrel, why not? Does this make sense to you guys? Thanks, Jesse

1-10 will work with 200-210 gr. bullets. It will also stabilize 208's subsonic and won't hurt accuracy for when shooting lighter bullets.

I am framiliar with the 1:10 but really wanting to know if it is a good choice in conjunction with the 5R rifling. I'm not sure that the rifling profile has relationship to the twist or not honestly. Thoughts?

I have had 4 guns with 5r barrels. Sold 2 to good friends. They all shoot great and I won't sell the two I have. Buy with confidence.

No issues with my krieger 1-10" 5R heavy palma contour, last weekend at a club 500 yard FT/R match (20 rounds) I fired a 198-5X with 215 Berger Hybrids.

I've been using the 5R rifling form for the last 10 years with no problems whatsoever. This includes every caliber of barrel from .22 up through .375 and in various diameters and contours. About 99% of all of these Bartlein barrels has had the 5R rifling form. They break in immediately and cleaning is simple and painless.

The rare few others were a smattering of 4-, 5-, 6-groove barrels from other makers. All of them were from the top makers including a large number of button barrels from Gary Schneider for M40 builds. These have been nothing short of great!

Buy the 5R in a 1:10" twist with no fear whatsoever.

Enjoy the build!

Boots made my barrels for a few years. Won the Texas State Long Range Championship shooting one of his 1-11" twist in 5R shooting a 196 gr. VLD of my own make. Was 308 Winchester caliber and man!!!!!....it was a shooter!! The 1-10" will work!

Pretty much every barrel I own in F-TR competition rifles are 5R Bartleins. I can't really say whether they clean or perform any better than other land/groove patterns, but they shoot extremely well, so I've been very satisfied. The 10-twist won't hurt you with 175s, or even 168s, but will give you more optimal spin rates with 185-200 gr bullets, if you choose to use them.
