anyone found a "quiet" air pump for cooling barrels that works?

That + some PVC tube from your local hardware store. Moves a lot more air than the "chamber chiller" devices.

i have that set up as well. wouldn't call it quiet, but it does work

Caldwell barrel cooler. It is made to fit directly into the mag well of the AR 15, I attach a tube to the air outlet, remove the bolt and stick it into the chamber. Puts a lot of air through the barrel and cools it quickly. It is rechargeable and I have never had it die on me while at the range. In fact I have often used it for two days without a problem. Now after reading the posts here I am thinking of placing it in a small cooler with ice packs and running the tube out of the side.

I just went down to Wally World and bought a battery operated mattress pump, https://www.walmart.com/ip/Intex-Quick-Fill-Battery-Air-Pump-13-4CFM-Max-Air-Flow/33563196 for $8.96

And this item to harvest the vinyl tubing https://www.walmart.com/ip/FloTool-10106WB-Transmission-Fluid-Gear-Oil-Spout/308836023 cost was $3.83 ( don't know why the website says 8 bucks).

A pack of 8 C size batteries (the most expensive item) and put it all together.

The 1/2" tube fits perfectly in the Savage action, and the pump really outputs a lot of air through my 22 cal barrel, WAY better than anything else I've tried. Pump noise is not that bad.

Will give it a go at the range tomorrow.

While I realize noise can disturb some folks, when at the range with several other shooters, all trying to shoot at the same time, I wonder why a fan is so bothersome. Especially since everyone is wearing some form of ear protection.

Water conducts heat 25 times faster than air does.

It did pretty well today, but temps started at 92 and went up from there. I used my IR gun to measure temps, but barrel reflectivity and a battery that was probably too old conspired to mess up my measurements. Using my hand I found the barrel took about 5 minutes to cool down to shooting temps. Good outflow while running.
Used it on the 223 and 6mmBR. Both with varmint wt and 26 and 28 inch barrels. FWIW, I'll be using it again.

I got the hose for mine from a doctor friend. It's some kind of hose used for breathing air. The tube is a piece of nylon I started to make a bore guide but switched to use it for the tubing.
