Anyone Familiar With Herters Bullets 38 Caliber Jacketed SWC

Had a friend contact me this morning and ask if I knew anything about the bullets pictured below. I don't think I have ever shot a Herters bullet. Are they good bullets? He also inquired as to the value of them, if anybody has a clue. They are 38 caliber 158 grain jacketed SWC. When were these marketed? Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Doug

Those are "short jacketed", Speer makes or used to make this type bullet many years ago. I used some in 41 mag. Worth? More than cast or coated, less than regular jacketed. If he has a lot of them, someone might want them for load workup and shooting. The Speers were accurate and worked good on deer sized game. One or two boxes, a plinker could have a little fun with them. A collector, who knows what they might offer?

I'll bet that those were just the ticket back when guys were trying to figure out how to work with 357 velocities without leading their barrels.

Herters had EVERYTHING under the sun at one time or another. They were like the AMAZON of outdoor sports and shooting, back in the 60's.

...how to work with 357 velocities without leading their barrels...

I remember my first 357 in the 1970’s and how swaged lead bullets just smeared lead down the barrel if you tried for 357 velocities. Scrub and scrub with bronze brushes, eventually I got a device called a Lewis Lead Remover, which used a heavy T-handled rod to pull a brass screen through the barrel, the lead would cling to the screen. Did a good job.

I’d shoot those bullets, the jacket will help to prevent and or minimize leading.

Main problem with those "half jackets" is that folks would load them light, and when fired they sometimes left the jacket in the barrel, causing issues.
