anyone ever had an in the white chrome moly barrel melonited ?

I have a chrome moly barrel I using for a bolt gun project, its going on a blued receiver/floorplate gun. I had planned to have the barrel blued as well and the whole thing melonited. However I was wondering if anyone had ever had one melonited without prior blueing on it and what the finish came out like compared to other blued finishes. What about a cold blue?
Yes I am aware I need to put about 100 rds down the barrel before having it melonited, that's not a problem

Don't put any rounds before you have it treated. You need to prep-message the throat only. My last job was done to a barrel that I needed to match the rust blue on the rest of the metal. I polished the barrel and had it treated. It is a match for my rust blue.
I have had at least 20 barrels Melonited. The main thing is to be sure you get the salts out of the bore before shooting. I soak the barrel over night and then vigorously brush it out. You should be in great shape.

Butch I thought you needed to put rounds down the tube but you say polishing the throat is enough.
Would putting rounds down the barrel hurt anything ?

I think it is better to prep the throat only. There is nothing else that needs to be done to "break in" a custom lapped barrel. I don't think a few bullets down the bore would hurt.

A manufacturer who has since gone out of business that made M14-type rifle receivers did a salt-bath nitride finish on their receivers, and it looked quite nice. Run an image search for 'GWLA receivers,' and you can see examples.
