Anybody wildcatted the 284 Win case up to 308?

It seems a 284 Winchester case loaded with a .308 bullet should have a good bit more power then the .308 Win cartridge while being more efficient then a 30-06. It might be a nice step up from a 308 without jumping into the short and powerful 300 SAUM style cases. However, I do realize that the shallow area of available shoulder on the 284 case might be problematic to enlarging up to 308 cal.

Anybody tried this?

More than one somebody must have done it because a 30/284 is listed in QuickLoad. No reason why it shouldn't behave very much like a 30-06 as long as you seat the bullets long and out of the case body.

Ahhhh Ok....got it!

I didn't think to look it up as a "30-284". ( yep, calling it a 308-284 just didn't seem right. LOL)
I entered 30-284 into the search just now and a slew of info came up about it. Thanks.
.

If ya think the 30/284 has a shallow shoulder, check out the 375/284 !!!!!!
I quit at a 338/284, and thats enough for me..

If you are worried about the shoulder, just build a 30/284 Shehane. The diameter at the top of the case body is 0.010 inches bigger than the straight 284 case and you will also get some extra case volume which might be useful with a 30 cal.

7.5x55. The Swiss have been using it for decades.

In fact, 101 years. I have both a 1911 Schmidt-Rubin and a K31. Both use the GP 11 cartridge adopted in 1911. Except for the slightly large case head, DukeDuke is dead on. The two cartridges are very close.

I'm sure I am missing something but what is the relationship beween the Swiss case and the 284 case???

Body diameter, case length and capacity are very close. The GP 11 has a shoulder angle of 31° vs. 35° on the .284. Years ago, some folks ran Winchester .284 brass into 7.5 X 55 sizing dies after expanding and shot that instead of the expensive Norma brass.
