Any updates on Tony Boyer?

He's doing well. His 83rd Birthday is coming up on the 15th. I know he misses competing more than anything. That's all he knows which is kind of sad in a way. He's got a lady friend that he goes out to eat a lot with. During deer season he went up to the mountain where his former range is, (he sold it to a friend) to do some deer hunting. He can't walk too far so he sits in his truck most of the time. He's just living day by day like the rest of us. On a side note. His youngest daughter Sherry Jo got a deer. With the entire left front end of her Nissan SUV. She is alright but in true Tony fashion the first thing he said to her was, "was it a buck?"

I’m sure like many others, Tony’s book opened my eyes to what true accuracy could be and from the day I closed the cover on his book for the first time, I’ve been on a never ending quest for the most accurate rifle and ammo I can assemble. Fortunately for me, there are other great men and women in this sport that have helped my girlfriend and I immensely over the past 5+ years.

I took lessons with Tony at Mickey Coleman's range and another at the Denton range. I was really impressed with him sitting in front of the adjoining bench watching me shoot a group at 200 yards. He had a target and pencil in hand. Watching only me, he marked each round that I fired on the target. He was only watching my bag handling and not the target. Incredible that he knew where each bullet printed on the target.

He is truly a master of his craft!!

I’d like to get drive down to west VA and take Tony out hunting and buy him a nice dinner. I haven’t been in the sport long enough to have ever shot with, let alone met, Tony in person. I have been fortunate to meet and work with some true legends in this sport in my short 6 years in the precision game. What I appreciate most, is the best people I’ve met in this sport have been blatantly honest with me. Don’t beat around the bush. Just tell me when I’m doing something wrong or stupid, I learn quick. Lol.

The best thing about Tony’s tutoring was his brutally Frank assessment of a shooters equipment.

He understood better than anybody that in Short Range Benchrest, , you could be no better than the Rifle sitting in the bags.

First, get the Rifle right. Then get you right.
