Any two radio programmers out there?

I know this is not shooting related.

I am trying to program a bendix king digital radio to work with p25 Motorola radio. We recently just changed over to all digital system in the co. A Motorola tech programmed the system, our department has 2 BK radios that I need to program.

I'm looking for help with the CTCSS/DCS/NAC codes. The Motorola radio are using a code of 294.0, the BK radio use either a PL or NAC code. I tried using the NAC code of 294 but the radio will not open the channel. I ran into this issue before but dont remember where I found the infom. Thinking back, I crossed the number over to something like D0625?? I remember using a cart but cant find it anywhere.

Does anyone know anything about 2 way radios?

294.0 is a ctcss code, which is a sub audible frequency (in radio speak, because it has a limited audio reproduction range). The way it works for a squelch is that each radio listens for it, and unless it’s heard it won’t open the squelch. So, u less you e got a repeater in the middle that strips the tone, both radios should be coded to transmit the tone on tx and listen for it on rx.

dcs is a newer digital equivalent (functionally). Both should be programmed to both transmit and open squelch on receive. This is normally an integer, not a floating point number.

I don’t know what NAC is. Your Motorola’s may be old enough as to not support dcs (or nac?). I’m not a Motorola guy, and I assume BK is a newer radio brand.

just an old ham operator. Hope this helps a little bit. Good luck.

I am sure you know this, the older kings are not digital compatible.
Many were set aside when we had the big push to go narrow band in the fire service.
I have field programmed a gazillion of the L,M,E,G,D models.... i have no idea how to program the new ones.
When my current D model is no longer serviceable, I’m retiring.

Model # of the BK radios would help. I may be able to help you if i had that.

It's a dphx5102x

Motorola is using a nac code of 294. I think that code is a Motorola code that crosses over to a Dcs code. I thought I had a chart that would tell me the code I need to enter into the BK radio, but I cant find it.

The BK is a digital radio for P25.

Yes, the dphx5102x is a P25 digital radio. NAC stand for "Network Access Code" and should be interoperable with any manufacturers digital radio, it's a standard. There is also something called "DPL" digital private line. This is a digital tone used on analog radios and is expressed in 3 digits ie: 210. NAC codes are also expressed in 3 digits. Make sure your BK radio is set for NAC codes, not DPL codes. BK makes it as confusing as they possibly can, i hate them !! I'll see if i can download a manual for your radio and try to help.

I've got 3 of the channels working on digital. I had to use 660 for nac code 294.0, 663 for nac code 297.0, and 664 for nac code 298.0

Found a forest service guy that was having the same issue. He figured it out.

I wish there was someone out there to help me become less digital radio illiterate.... all of the emergency responders in my area and neighboring areas have moved over to p25 digital radios. I have spent hours trying to figure out if I can obtain one and program it to be able to hear. I’m not wanting it for any illicit reasons, I truly just like being prepared for anything and being able to be a helpful citizen should the need arise. I live in a very rural area, and this fo of comms sure would be helpful should an emergency arise

Are you wanting a scanner, or a radio??

I would prefer a radio. I wouldn’t broadcast on it unless it was an emergency, but I am signed up for a ham radio class this summer. Seems that everything is trending to digital though.

Unless you are working for a department or someone who has a license to operate radios with the FCC, I would advise not getting a radio. However you can purchase a radio that you can program to work with local authorities if you know the frequencies and code they use. But agian, not being part of an agency that is licensed, I would advise against it.

Not only are we pushed to go P25, alot of departments are using encrypted communications, so not every radio will work just because it is digital P25. Some will not sale to you unless you can show you are authorized to use the frequency you want programmed.
