Any turkey shoot competitors?

Recently i have been bitten by the turkey shoot bug, but i dont really have a lot of info. Anyone one here willing to share their magic. I understand changing chokes and all that but lets say you are building a barrel from scratch....what is the best setup? I see lots of guys have different chambers, some tight and some larger. Some use a small bore around .709 and some are in tbe .720s. What about sleeving, back boring, and forcing cone length? Any pros out there that can provide a starting point? Thank you any help is much appreciated!

Talk to Bud Burkey from Gray Tenn. My cousin knew him and I visited his shop many years ago, he is the turkey shoot gunsmith.

Find out what shells they use at the shoot(s), try those in your gun with different chokes until you get good results. If you ever find a shotgun that consistently wins meat or money, hang onto it.

I've seen a couple show up through the years that were built for it, but mostly they were factory guns. The longest barrel I saw was 38". It was no better or worse than anything else there.

It can be habit forming though....

I would check with the club that hosts the shoots as to their rules. Many of the shoots, in my area, outlawed sleeves, long forcing cones and back-boring.

thanks for the responses. i have a factory setup im going to shoot with, but one of the shoots near the house is no rules, any 12 gauge, with any mods. Its basically like benchrest shotguns.
