Any thoughts on this barrel

My first super match grade stainless steel Pac-Nor barrel was chambered in a .1945' tight necked .17 Remington and that barrel had a 1 in 9' twist and 3 grooves. The throat began to look like alligator hide after less than 1,200 rounds and I DO NOT shoot hot loads nor do I let the barrel get too hot when shooting in colony rodent situations. I had it set back 2 full inches and it still had some alligator cracks, it does shoot .172 caliber Hornady bullets just fine, but the custom-made bullets with the thinner J4 jackets don't work real good in that barrel.

I'm hoping that barrel is an exception to the rule on quality because I just installed my second .17 Rem barrel with the same specs as the previous one as for twist, grooves, etc. The big difference on this new barrel is that it is 26' long instead of 24' and it has a custom contour. The first 4 inches are 1.200' in diameter and then it tapers to .825' at the 26' mark.

I also have a super match grade stainless steel 1 in 11' twist 3 groove .204 caliber barrel sitting in my reloading room waiting to be chambered. So I really hope my first experience with a Pac-Nor barrel was a fluke!!!

We use a lot of there barrels and they have treated us great you wont be disappointed. I'm sure there are some other guys on here that will chime in to.

I use a lot of Pac-Nor's with out problems and they shoot better than I can, and seem to last as long as any with sane loads.. The steel seems softer than some do, but never noticed that as a problem....

I have had three of there 20 cal. 3 groove barrels and they have all been shooters. I would not hesitate one minute to order another one and Penny who takes the orders is great to work with and takes care of her customers.
