Any reason to go with an 8-32x56 over a 10-50x60?

Am considering a new scope for punching paper.

90% of shooting is done at 600 with some 800 and a little 1k, hopefully more of that as we make more room.

Looking at the Sightron 8-32 or 10-50, other scopes are not being considered at this time.

The 8-32 is probably plenty of magnification, and only 4mm smaller at the objective so light transmission should be good.

At the same time it's nice to have the option of the higher power.

At the moment I'm leaning toward the 50x, don't have to crank it all the way up but nice to have the option. Weight isn't an issue.

Thoughts?

My feelings exactly. Bought a NF BR 8-32x, while already having 2 at 12-42x. Then asked myself why I did that? Same size & weight, only a little less cost. Sold it (on this site) and bought another 12-42x.

I quickly saw that there were times when I could not spot 6mm holes at 4 & 500 with the 8-32 at 32x, picked up one of the 12-42's, at 42x and found the shot holes.

There will always be days when there is no mirage and it's nice to be able to crank it all the way up.

"Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it".

I have both. The 10x50x60 is like your truck. You don,t run it wide open, but it great to have the power when you need it..

I've got the 10x50 and I only shoot 100 yard VFS. I use it mostly on about 35 power, but have gone up to 50 a few times. It's a great scope for the money and it's available from BigSupply for about $860 if it's in stock.

I have the 10-50x FCH model.

I believe it depends on where you shoot. Here in the South we have bad mirage from just about sunrise to late afternoon. I usually shoot on 50x out to 200 and it is manageable. Shot at 600 when it was raining and "cool"(77 degrees) and could see 30cal bullet holes at 600. As soon as the rain let off and the temp went up I could barely make out my POA on the same target.

But I did as others stated, sold my 8-32x to get this model in thinking it would be better to have to power and not use it, then to not have it and need it.

I have several Nightforce scopes 12x42, 5.5x22, 3.5x 15.
I have several Sightron scopes 10x50, 8x32, 6x24, 3.5x10.
I have several Leupold Scopes 8.5x25, 6x20, 4.5x14, 3.5x10,etc..

The Nightforce scopes are more durable(tougher) and track reliably.
The sightron SIII scopes are a little clearer, brighter, and track reliably.

I have and currently own over 20 Leupold scopes.
The Sightron and Nightforce scopes have and are replacing my Leupold scopes over time.

I also have the new 15x55 NightForce plus have or had have the above.

I use my 8x32 just as much as the others at 600 yards. In fact the 12x42 NightForce will do everything you need punching paper. I like the Sightron's as well. My hunting scopes are 6x18 and have two fixed 4x.

Punching paper and considering the investment, the BR 12x42 NightForce is about the best deal.

Great replies, thanks. Savageshooter86 are you glad you switched? DennisH interesting that you mention the NF as a better bench sciope, the vast majority of the reviews I've read place the Sightron's glass as brighter and clearer than the NF, the main selling point of the NF being that they're rugged enough for "tactical" type use.

It just work out this way for me. I might go all Sightron's in the future, who knows. There both good in my opinion. I am comfortable with the NightForce's, but would use a Sightron I am sure with no issues.

Paralax and eye focus are a big item for me. The BR NF's are very easy to adjust.

yes I am glad. I like my glass. Also if I never look through a NF, I will always think I have the best ;D And for the $$ saved I really like it. No issues whatsoever. I have used Weaver 36x and we like them, the other guys who shoot them say my SIII is a fine scope

Interesting thanks. I use a Weaver T-36 now and like it well enough but want something crisper with much better light transmission. When light gets low the T-36 is pretty dark.

I've had both the 10-50 SIII and a NF 8-32 and 12-42...I think the glass is slightly clearer in the NF's. There is one distinct advantage on the SIII that I like it is the side paralax. But I like the reputation of reliability and the turrets on the NF's and sold my SIII...it was replaced with a NF 12-42.
