Any opinions on the Lyman Gen 5 and Gen 6 electronic powder dispensers?

This is a pick-up, take-off on the recent RCBS Customer Service thread.....

I am wondering if anyone here has used either of these Lyman measures, and if so, what do you think of it.

I keep thinking of getting an electronic dispenser - my last bout with 4064 in my Redding BR-30 was a killer - but I keep hearing badddd reports about them... not a few, but a bunch, and the customer feed back on MidwayUSA is very discouraging.

I am beginning to think that maybe they are a fad in loading 'cuz people seem to be going back to beam scales and tricklers (which is what I do). I might just get one of those electric tricklers and call it "Done!".

We have a PACT scale and dispenser. It has worked flawlessly for us. We had the scale for many years and when PACT came out with their dispenser, we sent the scale back to them and they retrofitted the scale with the needed electronics to fit the dispenser at no charge to us. We bought the dispenser from PACT at that time. PACT is made and sold in Grand Prairie, Texas. Back to your question. We did all this after trying a friend's Lyman dispenser. I'm not sure what Generation it was or if they even had generations at that time. It was so bad we renamed it the LIAR.
I should add also that I recently borrowed a Gem-Pro 250 from another friend to check the accuracy of the PACT scale. I was dropping 34.0 grains of H4198. I had 8 consecutive drops of 34.00 on the Gem-Pro sandwiched in among better than 25 drops that never varied farther than 33.96 and 34.04. I should probably return the Gem-Pro to my buddy before he forgets I have it.

I have a Lyman DPS 3 and had a problem several years back. Lyman fixed problem for free and has worked great ever since. I actually use it to measure close and dump on beam scale for finish load, helps speed things up. You will have problems with electronics no matter what brand. I find it hard to live without my electronic scale I have a backup if my main scale decides to take a dump.

I have the hornady and it had a display problem and I sent it back for repair and they sent me a brand new one at no charge. I am happy and the new one even works better. I love it.

My Lyman DPS II has worked well for many years. It disagrees with my RCBS 505 scale by 0.1 gr but it is consistent. I cross check each time I use it just to make sure. I rezero after every 10 loads and return any dumps not registering the correct weight. To get 100 cases loaded it usually will take about 110-115 charges. I load all my HP 223 loads short range and Xcourse with it. I still used the 505 for my long range throwing a lite charge and trickling up to final using a small hand held magnifier to be as accurate as possible. This gave me outstanding vertical at 1K. I switched to a Lyman Acutouch 2000 Digital and an Omega powered trickler to get faster speed. I have not fired any of these loads yet so do not know how they will compare to the 505. If my vertical suffers I will try the 505 with the Omega. A few years ago I bought a Hornady Powder Dispenser because it automatically refills. It was very inaccurate and I would not recommend it to anyone.
