any load data on 22-204 55gr in 12 twist?

Thinking about rechambering a 26"bbl 700 223 12 twist to the 22-204, have any of you tried such a chambering with 55 gr bullets, in the 12 twist?

thanks for any input

Bob

Why not just chamber it in 222 mag? I have not seen the specs. on the 22-204, but I have made alot of 204 cases from 222 mag. by just necking them down. I`m sure you could use starting data for the 222 mag. for the wildcat, why bother with neck expanding. I have a 17 Mach IV, which is almost I dentical to the 17 Fire Ball, but I had it before the Fire Ball came out.

Howdy ! I'd like to echo what Catfish said.... then add a bit.

IF you are going to campaign a 1-12 .224" cal, why not make it a honest 500yd cartridge; for use on things like groundhog, rockchuck; and the like ? ( Paper shoots, too ).

A 1-14 twist .224" pretty much tops out @ 60g bullets; and then... they've gotta be under .75" long to stabilize ( At least that's how it was w/ my 24" 1-14 shootin' a .224" cal wildcat of 42+gr capacity ).

A large capacity .224" cal cartridge shooting something like Sierra 65 SPBTs from a 1-12 would be hard for a different .224" cal combo to beat for all-around performance @ 500. And closer-in, you'd be less likely to "shoot- through", than were you say.... operating w/ a .224" cal 1-8 shooting 75"A"-Max.

My point: A 1-12 twist has some inherent capabilities.... why not fully exploit them ?

Good advice form both of you and causin some pause,

one consideration was to keep the small bolt face of the 223, - the rifle is for pd and where used stays forthe most part under 500. so light recoil, low powder use were thoughts,

I have had 222m and they are great - just thinking of the slight increase in water capacity of the 204 case - also looking at the 12 twist as flexible for heaver pills, my 22-250 is a 13 twist and shoot in the .100's and i have had 22-250 14 twist that would not stabalize the 55 bk

some thinking to be done, just looking for some one who has used this case with 50-55gr to see what they experience ve the 222m that i had.

Thanks fo your input.

The case capacity of the 22-204 is slightly more than a 223 Ackley, but for all practical purposes, any results for the 22-204 will mirror the Ackley, of which oodles of data is available.
