Any Ideas ?

Hello All,

I'm wondering if any of you may have an idea how to expand a neck to allow for free bullet travel?
I'm in the process of making a new .284 case , 7mm Rem Mag for a OAL cage.
Case is fire form, not resized and the case will not accept the bullet.
The only mandrels I have are .283 and a .307 so that's not going to work.
Form grim, I tried seating a bullet and then pulling it, no luck there

Kind of stumped

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Use a drill bit , round file, or dremel on the inside neck. You can take a smaller drill bit on a drill and press it on the inside neck and it will remove material, not pretty but it works.
If you fired this case and it won't take a bullet you may need to anneal because there is too much spring back or turn the neck because there isn't enough chamber clearance.

Thanks

Funny you say that.
I deprimed all the case, tumbled cleaned and annealed.
Stumped on this one never had an issue prior

These are cases I've never used before , ADG
I've always used Nosler prior

You need measuring tools to find the real reason. I wouldn't use a file or anything on my brass. After finding the "true reason" for your problem, either inside ream or turn the OD.
Thanks. I thought I was having a bad dream. Amazing sometimes what can creep out of the woodwork.

I used Gauge Pins to open a Fired 50 BMG Case to use as my modified case. I used a .512" pin which gave me a perfect slip fit for measuring.

To amplify, several of the condiions that would cause a fired case not to accept a bullet are DANGEROUS! You could end up with a kaboom and injuries. In a factory chamber there is such generous clearance that this should never happen. If you're using a tight-neck or no-turn chamber, you need to learn how to manage clearances before you fire another round.
