ANY IDEAS?

I recently sent an action I had to a very reputable gunsmith and had some work done. The action was trued, new barrel put on, new trigger, new stock bedded and pillared. I put on good quality rings with a high quality scope. I was expecting great performance from the gun that has not materialized.
I've been working with different powders and bullets trying to find a combination that would shoot well but have had no success. Occasionally the gun shows promise, but never anything consistent. I'm hardly new to load development and precision reloading and have been able to develop good loads for guns that cost much less than this one. I'm not real satisfied with this gun's MOA performance. Any ideas or suggestions?

:)Try some 8208xbr😳😳😳😳😱 Abbot: It won't work in that cartridge., Lou: what cartridge? ....Abbot: the one he's shooting!....Lou:how much?....Abbot:how much for what? Lou: How much powder for the cartridge he's shooting? Abbot: i don't know. He never said.😜 Just kidding, but more info would be helpful.

I'd check my action bolts for correct torque then if that is alright then I'd suspect it was my technique. I had this problem this year on a new rifle and I ended up having to hold the rifle tighter than I was.

Since you state you are a "precision reloader" I will assume everything you are doing is correct. Under that assumption there can be very few reasons why a rifle won't shoot. Since you KNOW what you are talking about, worrying about loose screws on your rifle or scope rings is superfluous. So that leads us to 1.) a "less than stellar" barrel; 2.) an incompetent riflesmith or lastly ; 3.) a very picky barrel. My bet would be on a barrel that will ONLY shoot with one bullet, one powder and one powder charge.

I have had MORE than my fair share of "picky / persnickety" barrels. As a matter of fact, my last 6 Dasher would shoot "decent" with a few loads BUT only turned on with 1 load>>period. If it can happen to a Dasher, it can happen to anything.

At this point in my shooting "life", with components as expensive as they are, I will allow 400 shots to find a load. I will NO LONGER change and change and change everything to find the ONE load or possible NO LOAD at all. Once you have reached YOUR threshold of tolerance for a picky / bad barrel, just get rid of it and try another. Losing $$$s to components will just about pay for a new barrel to begin with!

Please perhaps let us in on what all you have tried so that we can possibly offer "other ideas".

This is the reloading forum, but your post addresses no detail on the subject.

Last week, a guy here was griping why his new 6mm toy wasn't delivering groups like his 6mmPPC. Half page later, he identifies the ctg he expects to shoot better than .5" groups he's getting as a .243win AI. Never did say the distance he was shooting at.

This is the right place if you love guessing games like What's My Line?... If you want assistance, why not provide as many details about rifle, chamber, ammunition, and your shooting results as you can?

I would advise taking the rifle back to the builder. If you are able to consistently shoot your other rifles with good precision, the problem is the rifle, assuming you handload for your other guns also. Did the builder shoot the rifle to confirm its performance?

What steps have you taken to isolate variables and diagnose the problem(s)?
