any electronics/tv people here?

Ive got a 22" Samsung lcd about 8 years old in the kitchen that gets used allot. Today it started turning itself on then on. I checked and cleaned all the connections and swaped it from rca to hdmi inputs. Im not sure if the input swap has helped yet or not. any suggestions ? Im thinking replacement will be needed so any suggestions there as the smaller tvs under 32" dont seem too common.

Thanks

Don't mean to be snarky but just go to Costco and pick up a new one for next to nothing and get an upgraded screen, options and move on.
Pitched a 50" projection set and got a 58" HDLCD Samsung for under 400 bucks at Costco and that came with a 7 year warranty through Costco
Put the old set in your reloading room

Not an answer per se to your question but that is how I went.

Gary

As a last resort try to power everything down then restart. But sounds like a new one might be in order. Get a can of air and LIGHTLY blow out any of the vented areas dust can hold heat in and over heat the electronics but be easy with the air pressure.

As long as it's turning itself from on to on your golden.;)

At eight years old I think I would upgrade, not worth a lot of time or effort.

Go to AVS Forum, and if your specific TV series is at all beloved, there will be a hideously long thread with all sorts of details including stuff like board replacement. If you want to go that way.

If it's just "a TV" then yes likely best to replace. Sadly, 8 years is kinda old for electronics anymore. If you really like the picture quality etc. then it may be worth repair.

TV in the kitchen?! Man, too much stuff to do to be watching TV in the kitchen. But, I don't like TV anyway. Won't ever find one as the centerpiece in my living space. Just never understood it, and I'm GenX that grew up with cable and watched the birth of the internet.

And I started with Black and White TV........LOL

The power supply capacitors are leaking. Easy to replace if you're so inclined. Most likely you'll find a video on YouTube to walk you right through it.

This!

Did it to my 46" Samsung about 8 years ago. Bought an inline soldering iron and the capacitor for about $10. It was obvious which capacitor went bad, it was bulged. It's still working.

Do yourself a favor, take the TV to the dump and don't ever buy another one.
You'll get a lot of SH!T done without that damm TV in the house. I hate those frickin things.

Amen! Not to mention the weight loss you'll enjoy from not snacking in front of the TV.

Back in the 80's mine broke and I didn't replace it for about 3 years. New girlfriend and a new TV later and I was like, did intelligence levels suddenly drop? I couldn't believe the crap I was seeing! Fast forward a few decades and I cut the cable two years ago and haven't looked back. The only broadcast TV I watch is news and Super Bowl. Everything else comes off the 'net via Roku, and none of it is Hollywood crap.

Well the trick is getting the case apart with out breaking the case. If you can the best the average Joe can be expected to do is look for any burnt parts that are through hole soldered and replace like an electrolytic capacitor in the power supply or a burnt resistor. Beyond that it is not worth the time to go through and trouble shoot if you do not have the skills or gear to do the job and just want to do it for the fun of it. This is not the 1980's anymore.

I too do not watch TV much. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime but prob. watch something on TV once a month. No cable, no satellite, no digital antenna etc.....
