Any advice on how to avoid that first 9!

This is for the F Class guys. I know the answer is to only shoot Xs. Lol But, I’ve noticed the very top level shooters seem to know how to avoid that first 9. I’m not there yet. I have gotten better at not printing multiple 9’s in a row at least under favorable conditions. At the first 9, I will assess the condition that may have caused it and either stop shooting or see the condition and stay ahead of it.
But, I will continually get surprised by a horizontal 9. Seeing this ahead of time is the difference between the top level shooters and me. Can you share any techniques to avoid these?

You gotta know when to start shooting and more importantly when to stop
I agree wholeheartedly. But what makes you stop shooting? A sudden change in the flags, a succession of shots that keeps migrating toward the downwind side of the 10 ring, yes I get that. But there’s that 9 that just seems to be from nowhere. That’s the condition change that gets me.

Start watching mirage more than the flags. Flags can be misleading, on some ranges more than others

I try to pay attention to several targets and spotters when scoring, also listening to the cadence of the line helps when I'm shooting. If there is a pause, I check flags and spotters to see why. If its running the pit guys ragged, I try to as well. But, I'm still learning and find these things helpful and hope to up my game this season by no longer shooting off a harris bipod, lol!

Best I've been able to avoid "9 one on," is shooting another sighter after I've confirmed being centered up.

Try putting 3 or 4 X's as sighters , in a row , and then get that , "9" , One Out . Talk about screwin up your relay . OR EVEN WORSE ARE THOSE "EDGE-9's" that are horizontal and just barely not touching 10 .

If you can figure out what caused that 9 AFTER you shoot it, you can figure it out before.
I agree Doug and will often study my targets and go through each shot recalling my points of aim vs points of impact. Often though, it’s like X,X then a 9 downwind. I never saw the condition that caused the 9. That’s what I need to get better at doing. Thanks for your input!

Nothing worse than 9 one on! I think it’s that extra few seconds we wait to go record that gets us. I try and wait till I get a handle on the wind before I go record.
