I bought a "custom" pre-64 model 70 a couple years ago with all intents of never shooting it the way it was. Chambered in 22-250, the rifling was basically gone when I got it but it shot pretty good with a couple different loads. It is sporting a fairly heavy barrel, Canjar trigger, and a varmint style maple stock. The plan is to make this a hunting rifle for deer and coyotes. I originally was going to go with 6.5x284 just because I wanted one so bad I could taste it and I figured this action would be perfect for that round. I am past that now and looking to go with a 243 or one of the improved like the super lr or 6cm or possibly the Ackley. It has what I believe is the original bottom metal which is fine but have read that the one piece is better.?? If there was a detachable mag system out there that would work for it, I would go that way. As far as the stock goes, I want something different and as far as I tell Mcmillan is the only option there. The action is configured for the short rounds, a normal 243 will fit but I would like to have a little more room in there for some longer bullets. The plan is to use the 95vld Berger for everything and have a laser like trajectory. I used it in a 243 Savage and had promising results. I may end up using the 105-107, never know what it will like in the end. Do any of you guys have any ideas to help out here? Is there a smith out there that is considered to be the pre-64 guru? Thanks Jason
