Antelope bullet

So starting to work up a load for an antelope hunt using a 308, 12 twist. Did a search on eld-x bullets think everything was in the classified section. I would really like to use smk168 because I have all the info out to 600yds with them, just not a lot of good reviews on them for game unless someone has experience with them on game. So I guess I will be loading up some eld-x's and trying them out with some varget. Anyone have any opinions on them or another bullet to try. Live in a shotgun state limited experience with rifle on deer size game.

Ditto. We use a 243 and 95 grain bullets... 25-06 works well too with light bullets.. 308 will also giterdun. Either way enjoy the hunt

Their hide is super thin and there is not a whole lot to go through in order to reach the vitals so no need to have a super tough bullet. Just about anything will work. I'd just go with whatever shoots the best.

155 TMK/Amax or 168 TMK/Amax. All will work fine. Find the most accurate bullet. The 155 will be the flattest out to 600. If the 308 is your choice, keeping the velocities and BCs higher will help if wind becomes a factor. Those bullet choices are decent for both.

I bet a 125grn Nosler ballistic tip would be great out of your 308. I'm working on a load for them myself.
Great choice. Impact velocity of almost 2k and just over 1k energy at 600 yards. Great goat bullet I would think. Be looking for an option next October myself. I'll be using a 6.5-284 or 243. Thinking I'll be pushing a Berger of some sort. 130/140 or 95.

What muzzle velocity are you getting those numbers from?

The ELD should work fine. I've always used the 105gr AMAX in 6mm and it worked very well.

A couple friends used Bergers. I was NOT impressed. Very inconsistent terminal performance.

I use the 125 Nosler BT in my 30 cal. firearms on North East NC white tail deer which many are about the size of Antelope. As long as I keep the IMPACT velocity under 3000 fps they work outstandingly, BANG FLOP. I have only shot deer with them out to 350 yards so far. In my 308 Win I use WW cases, CCIBR2 primers, 46 grs IMR 4895 and from my 21 1/2" barrel I get 3000 fps and bug hole accuracy at 100 yards.

The plastic tipped bullets work well for me also. I built my speedgoat rifle in 260Rem with 26" Brux barrel. It shoots 140 Amax very well. I would suggest getting a few sizes and shoot them for accuracy test. 125-150g is plenty for them, but it can't hurt to test 168g also.

Last one that I shot was with a 223, 55g Winchester soft point at 3100 MV, distance was 470 yards and he dropped on the spot.

243's with 95g partitions did not destroy much meat, and prior to that, the 25/06 with 100g Sierra's btsp @ 3150 fps.

ON a 308, use a tough bullet so you don't blow the antelope up, and a 130g ttsx would be a good place to start.

Using the 125-135g bullets, 50-52g of win 748 is magic in terms of pure accuracy with speed of up to 3200 fps. Similar results can be obtained with H4895 if you hunt in Artic conditions.

Antelope make the best jerkey I have every had. The problem is that many of the larger calibers blow up an entire front half of the animal. So, if you are into eating antelope, neck shots are the way to go.
