Anschutz test ammo?

ms, I didn't think of that.

Last weekend, I saw a test target for a Wby MK XXII .22 L/R that was 5 shots @ 55 yds. It was a very tight 4 leaf clover. I would like to try some of that ammo in my .22's. It was shot in one of the new clip fed Anschutz made rifles.

I'll keep looking.

Thanks, Tom

Just guessing, but knowing a little about the German mindset, I'd think either RWS or SK. They like to keep it in the fatherland as much as possible, ya know.

One of the strange things about rimfires is that the two identical rifles might not prefer the same ammo. Slight variations mean everything. I'm sure R-50 will shoot pretty good in your rifle, but Wolf ME or Lapua Center-X may shoot as good or better for less money. Testing is the only way to really know.

My 1913 Anschutz shoots very well with RWS Target Rifle and Match. It throws fliers with Wolf. Oddly, since it is made in the same plant as Wolf, SKJ shoots well without the fliers. I also like Lapua Master and of course Midas. I use RWS Target the most.

Do you mean Wolf Match Target or Wolf Match Extra (ME)? There is quite a bit of difference in performance in my testing. Also Lapua doesn't make Master or Midas any more. These were there number two and number one lines. The Center-X I am shooting now in benchrest is there current number 3 line in current production and shoots as well as 95% of any Midas. X-Act is the top of the line with Midas+ number 2. If you have to ask how much is X-Act you can't afford it. Since I bought my Center-X last year, the Master I was using for benchrest is now my outdoor ammo for 3P. The Wolf ME I use for indoor 3P and will test it a little more for outdoor this coming season.

Boys, this has turned out to be a great education. I've never shot a rimfire match of any kind, but really appreciate this site because of all the people who share their experience.

I now have a good list of ammo that is proven and ranked by people who use it in competition. It is good to know that there is ammo available that is certainly better than my old T-Bolt (or me). I'll try some of it, and I expect to find that I'm the limiting factor. Up to now, my idea of good ammo was Remington or Federal match. I have heard of Eley, but never shot any of it. Interesting that it wasn't even mentioned by anybody!

Thanks to all for the great replies. Tom

Both Wolf match extra and target gave me fliers. I know they don't sell Lapua Master or Midas anymore, but, that doesn't mean I don't have any :). I haven't bought any of the Center-X yet as I still have Master and Midas. I haven't even considered trying the X-ACT. I do have some ELEY Match but have not tried it yet. I have shot some of the new Federal Gold Medal (not the old ultramatch - I do still have some of that too though). The New Federal shot OK for practice. I had an odd thing happen though. After shooting the Federal for a while I went back to the RWS (match league started) and my chamber fouled with lead to the point I could not chamber a round. The bore scope showed extensive lead fouling in the lead of the chamber. It took a lot of scrubbing to get it out. I have not shot any Federal since. I have not had the problem since. I think perhaps there was some incompatability between the lead of the Federal bullets with the RWS bullets. Weird.

Back before I had a borescope, I think in the mid 90's I tried some Ultra match 1000B. After that my bench gun would not shoot Lapua or Eley. I called the builder thinking I had a barrel problem and he suggested before I send it back I scrub the barrel 40 strokes with shooter choice and a bronze brush. I did and accuracy returned. There were a lot of guys who swore ultra match was the best ever and just as many who said it leaded terribly. I guess it must have depended on the chamber dimensions or something. Anyhow every so often I hear of Federal leading still. I don't understand because over the last 15 years there ammo has been produced by several different folks. You wouldn't think they would not all be doing the same thing.
