Anschutz history lesson

From model to model, year to year, match to super match, action to action, chassis to chassis, trigger to trigger - what the heck - Iam not getting any younger and trying figure this out - All I can say is "What the What" (borrowed from my 3-year-old grandson" If anyone has a simplified way to sort this out - please please enlighten me.

Anschutz Models Sticky

I've never actually seen an Anschutz rifle, however on rimfirecentral.com there is a sticky in the Anschutz section that describes the Anschutz models. I know how you, feel been there myself.

There is no "simplified" way to explain everything about Anschutz models. Anschutz has made many different rifles since the mid-50's, not counting pre-war models. While it wouldn't approach the complexity of a unified field theory, explaining Anschutz model numbers with all the characteristics might only be a little more tidy.

Here's some basics to help get started.

1. It's necessary to distinguish between match single shot rifles and sporter rifles. They can often have little in common.
2. Match single shot rifles are based on the Anschutz 54 action, which itself has variants. Other so-called Anschutz "match rifles" include the less expensive 64 action models.
3. There are sporters with variations of the 54 action and sporters with 64 actions.
4. Match rifles generally (not always) have two barrel lengths. Models ending with a xx07 suffix have a 66 cm barrel; xx11/xx13 models have a heavier 69 cm barrel.
5. Anschutz has also produced rifles with Flobert actions. These are the least expensive.
6. Anschutz has recently developed the 1761 action. It replaces the 64 action models.

Consult the stickies in the RFC Anschutz forum for more details.
