anschutz 64 MSR

Hi all,

I was wondering if any one has any experience with these rifles, I was after any pros and cons for it. I was thinking of venturing into Very informal rimfire bench rest and silouette shooting and was thinking this might be a good starting rifle for an amature like me.

Thanks for the help

No experience with this gun in BR, but in Silhouette it is a great gun as it has a very good two stage trigger and is a great shooter. Only down side is that it only meets the requirement of a Standard Class, heavy) gun and does not meet the rule as a Hunter Class gun.

I can tell you form some testing we recently did at our gun club that the MPR is probably one of the best buys in a bench gun possible. They shoot well enough to be considered in all but the top level benchrest competition. The triggers are great, barrels are match grade, and you'll never be sorry you bought one. I have too many .22's, so I had to sell my last MPR to finance a new bench gun, but the buyer is getting a heck of a good shooter.

I have a close friend with an MPR. Fitted with a flat plate to ride the front bags, He has regularly finished in the top three at our club's monthly 100-yard rimfire BR silhouette match. No, it won't group as tight as a full custom with Turbo Action, Benchmark barrel, and tuner, but it is a very, very nice gun for the price and is very versatile,as others have noted). My friend's trigger breaks at about 8 ounces.

Note--it is easy to fit a front plate because most MPRs have a built-in accessory rail. Just slide two appropriate sized nuts in the rail and attach the plate with machine screws.

I have a 64 MPR with the factory stainless steel barrel,I don't think you can get them in the U.S. in stainless anymore)
Like they said above, for a factory rifle it shoots great, but you can't expect it to run with a full custom. I've tried different ammo, and mine shoots Wolf, and Eley standards just as well as the high priced spread.
An interesting aside Anschutz in their instruction booklet dosen't recommend cleaning till you hit the 10,000 round mark!
