ANSCHUTZ 54 scope mount

So I just bought a real nice 54 that has peep sights and want to mount a scope. What mounts do you guys recommend thanks.

Clamp ring direct to receiver is best
The pic rail adapter has shown ( Orkan has tested ) that sometimes it causes / may cause , some sort of stress and induces inaccuracy
Interesting, why wouldn't clamp on rings do the same thing?

IIRC ,,,,,There was a discussion on one of the forums maybe this one , an anshutz 54 repeater , they messed with it for awhile and accuracy just wasn’t right , it had a rail on it so they removed it and used dicect clamp rings , accuracy improved or the inaccuracy went away , look up primal rights or Orkan and ask him , , I think it was a 1808

I have clamp on rings on two Annies and a rail on a third. One using clamp on rings is my unlimited ARA rifle. The rifle with the rail is used for 200 yard silhouette and needs the angle machined into it. Depends on what you are doing with the rifle.
DIP makes rails, that is what I have and it seems to work pretty well. BKL makes clamp on rings, again, that is what I have and they work well.

I find this interesting, especially since a majority of new ANA 54's are sold and lot tested with a Picatinny scope base attached. If your Anschutz is a model that came factory drilled and tapped then I would suggest buying the scope base they sell on their website.
My 1727 has that rail and the accuracy is excellent. I do have an older (70's era) 54 action single-shot that was built by Calffee and it was not drilled and tapped. I installed an Area419 scope base and see not detriment to accuracy. I did pay close attention to the torque values for not only the clamp-on base but the rings as well. I have seen no ill effects because of it. Haven't seen the Orkan experiments mentioned above but does anyone know what brand they were using to test?

I’m not saying you “ WILL “ have issues I’m saying he noticed issues and you “ COULD “ have issues

Understood that from the start. But I (and many I shoot with) have not seen I happen.
If you have a link to the test mentioned please post it so everyone can see.

I have a 1808 repeater with a Pic rail on it so I can just swap any optic I have on to it. It shoots excellent.
My 54/1808 has holes drilled in the action so the Pic rail is held on with screws.

Simply get a 11 mm set of rings, believe Harrells offers them.
Countless RFBR rifles have gone with reciever mounted rings without issue…..sheesh.

If you don't need any MOA cant for some of the rimfire long range matches it is but many today need the extra cant.

Have you worked with Anschutz rails before? They’re tall in the middle of the rail. So not all dovetail mounts will fit.

As for overkill, I will never mount a metal ring directly to a scope tube or a scope ring if I can avoid it. And in the case of Anschutz rail, I can avoid biting bare metal into the blued receiver rail. As far as I’m concerned that the optimum solution if you want to keep your components pristine. And the rings will work on picatinny and weaver too once they’re taken off of the gun.

BKL rings and mounts are my go-to, used them on my 1807 for years. They come in a variety of heights and styles, and if you need to fine-tune the mount height you can always find a set of risers (used by 3P shooters to fine-tune their sight height) in the height you need.

David, custom rings don’t mar anything when used properly.
For BR work the fewer pieces, with fasteners, the better, and I don’t want a scope any higher than needed. Keep it simple buddy.
I shot a Calfee 54 based rig and a 54 actioned sporter, never had an issue with simple clamp on the dovetail. Even if you cannot source an 11 mm set, a std set (Kelbleys) works well by trimming the bottom until they slide onto an 11 mm action.

If you are uncomfortable with using a rail there is an easy solution . Get a set of 11mm Burris Signature Zee rings and mount to the dovetail
And use the inserts to get the MOA you want or need.
I have a Picatinny rail on my Anshutz and it hasn’t caused any problems. I followed the instructions for torque values.
