Anschutz 1727 APR Competition (Maybe First One Seen In The Wild)

Our shooting buddy known World Wide as Martini Bill just got back from work in Alabama and brought home his 1 of 50 of the first Anschutz 1727 APR Competition rifle to make to the United States. He ordered his with the much heavier steel forend and I believe he said it weighs a tad over 20 lbs. It has the 1.1 inch diameter 22 inches long. Nice might be a big time understatement, It has Anschutz's own designed stock this time and they have done their research and hit a Home Run with including everything that works. Lots of adjustments on the buttstock with a really nice height adjustable bag rider.

He shot it using some R50 he's been secretly hoarding from the rest of us and even with it being cold and a bit breezy it did quite well at 50 yards and 197 yards. We didn't take any group pictures, if it warms up next week we'll do that. Chris and I had out Izhmash 7-2 toggle guns down there and we did get some group pictures. Chris' is factory barrel with a suppresson and mine sports a long Shilen Ratchet barrel and both are in ARS aluminum chassis. Bill will have his hands full running with them but it'll probably end up we'll have our hands full trying to keep up at the long range matches. If all else fails I can fall back on my Anschutz Exemplar Pistol to keep Bill humble.

Not much else to say other than we were impressed with the quality and how well they addressed incorporating nearly everything we look for in a good long range setup. We're all running either an Arken 7-35 or DNT 7-35 which we think is nearly the perfect scope for this longrange game. Plenty of travel, excellent mechanics and glass good enough to move the small floating dot around on a 1 inch target at 200 yards with room to easily see all the edges.

I saw and handled the pre-release 1727APR Competition a couple months ago. Tried to buy it but it had been sent especially for ANA to display at SHOT.
I thought it to be too heavy and it actually felt heavier than 20 pounds but it's a very well thought out rifle and I feel the designers took to heart much of what the competitors said it needed.
The pedigree of the Fortner is pure bred race horse. I own two already, a GRS stocked and the ATX chassis. I shouldn't need the APR (need has nothing to do with it) but I am making regular trips to the blood bank saving up for one soon. :D

UPDATE:
I've had my 1727 APR Competition now for about a month. I had to donate a gallon of blood and a quart of baby juice to get the dough! ;)
Since then I've done some break-in (not burglary) and, since ANA just happened to get a container of R50, some lot testing. This thing is just plain fun! Haven't shot it in a match as yet but will soon. AICS-style mags means they ain't. No way to get an AICS OBI to fit it but got a good friend working on that.
Meanwhile, the 1727 ATX is doing the chores.
