another quick groundhog question

Groundhoggers,

Does anyone out there in groundhog land know the height to a groundhog when it stands?

I am working with my spotter on how to range distance using a reticle. One very important datum is the size of target,or something near to it) and that is something I do not have and will need when we go to the field, someday). Of course, this measure will differ by the individual rodent but does anyone know. I could guess but I would rather have something more solid than that.

Do I...wood I ....hahah......welll finally ...some of my boyhood experiences in wild are coming in handy....bak here in the hills of WV ...most of em in July are around 14-16'...a reeelllly big un ...nice and 'fat' ..will be around 18'....hope this helps..Roger
PS...get a lazer range finder and eliminate the guessin...I wuld rather guess on the distance than the guess the size of someting at an unknown distance....it just compounds the error...

Roger - thanks for the measurement. That sounds about right for a full grown pig.

I prefer not to laser if I can avoid it.....call me old fashion. I have used rangefinders in the past but since being introduced to tactical shooting and learning to range targets, I would rather work for it & live with the consequences of my failures as a man with a gun and a brain. If I can get a good measurement and mil the target, the rest is up to me.

If I can only get off of using anemometers.

I too would spend whole summers in my youth hunting groundhogs when you could just walk out the door and shoot, safely).
The problem with your method of ranging is the darn things are inevitably in tall grass or have their rear end partially down the hole....unless you can actually see their hind feet that 18' benchmark will cause a lot of misses.
Gotta get off them anerometers, heard that's how MJ started the downward path.

I don't pick up my finder until I think they are over 300yds because now the wind starts to play into it 6mm rem
