Another question about 34mm scope rings

Gents,

I know if anyone can help me they'll be a member of this forum. I shoot a Stiller Tac 30 in .308 with a Schmidt and Bender PMII in a 34mm tube mounted in TPS rings (came with the scope) on top of a stiller rail. The rifle is great, but I've got about 3/8" between the objective lens (50mm) and the top of the barrel and I'd like to reduce that gap.

Most of the rings I've found for 34mm don't go lower than about 9/10 of an inch of height from mounting surface to center of optic. 30mm tubes open up a huge selection of rings, but I'm not getting rid of the SB scope - unless someone can convince me to go with a Leupold VX6.

Any help on finding a lower base (mine's doesn't look like it's high) or rings that can get my eye closer to the bore would be greatly appreciated.

One final comment, this is more of a tactical gun, I shoot it off my ruck and a sand sock and she rinses in a McMillan A-5 stock.

Your just gona have to search around for a lower pair. I would stick with known good quality rings and not buy a cheap set off ebay just because they are lower. ARC M10 low rings are .940" Im not sure your going to find many much lower than that. Thats starting to get the base of the rings thin

Seekins Precision rings are made from 7075 Aluminum. The 34mm low rings are .92".
I have like 6-8 sets of Seekins rings in 30 & 34mm, they are top notch!

Reason you don't see 34mm rings much lower than ~.9" range is due to the fact that many 34mm scopes are rockin' >50mm objectives & need at least that much room to clear a heavy contour barrel. A lighter contour tube and 50mm bell will obviously allow more space, but don't look at that as something that needs to be rectified...

I like low rings and ordered 34mm Morr Accuracy. I had to order the medium the lows were too low. GREAT RINGS!!

Fredo, your advice is right on. I shot this rifle this morning at 5, 6, and 700 yards and she grouped under a half minute with bulk LC M118, shot off my ruck for a rest and a sand sock. I realize that a lot of guys on here are disappointed with that, but shooting ammo that costs less than a dollar per round (shipped) and getting 1/2 minute results makes me feel stupid for thinking of changing anything on the rifle. However, I would like to put the scope lower if able.

SSViper6Dasher, .875 was actually the dimension I was looking for, but can't find any name brand rings made like that.
