another pointing question.

when pointing bullets. is it best to sort oal or bto? plan to trim then point? end goal is consistant meplats and using whole box as one lot

It is not a bad idea to do a sample BTO sort to see how BTO is running for that particular bullet lot number. Then, do a 100% OAL sort, say at .002 intervals, and engage them with your pointer, or trimmer first. Why the BTO sample? As you decide how much you might want to close the meplates...check the BTO of a bullet in an OAL-sorted batch, write it down (hopefully it will be in line with your sample?). Then subject that bullet to the pointing process, gradually working down the meplate diameter, while at the same time re-reading the BTO for that same bullet along the way. At the time you detect a shorting of the BTO for that bullet...you have gone too far with the pointing process! Back off your pointer .002 - .003 and point 5 - 10 bullets...check the BTO's. If you are within the "BTO sample", feel that you are safely pointing without damaging the bullet.
