Remington corrected the twist rate. I know somebody back in college who had a 700 in that caliber and it shot 100 grainers just fine and about 5% faster than the .243 but I think the well was poisoned and the correction was too little too late.

A car comparison is the old Ford Tempo. It was on the market about 7-10 years. For the first 3/4 of its existence Consumer Reports justly ripped it on many levels. The faults WERE corrected in the last two model years and the reviews generally were FAR better but the public wasn't buying it.

I ordered custom stockings that look like "hunting socks" for my cuz and his boys. I'm going to put a box of Federal 100 grain flat base in each of the boys' stockings and a box of either Superformance or Winchester Supreme Elite in Cuz's stocking. They can use the Federal for sighting in and to get familiar with the gun and save the high performance for Fall. Am I a good Santa or what? Actually I severely overbought on ammo this year so I have a nice present handy.
