Remington corrected the twist rate. I know somebody back in college who had a 700 in that caliber and it shot 100 grainers just fine and about 5% faster than the .243 but I think the well was poisoned and the correction was too little too late.
A car comparison is the old Ford Tempo. It was on the market about 7-10 years. For the first 3/4 of its existence Consumer Reports justly ripped it on many levels. The faults WERE corrected in the last two model years and the reviews generally were FAR better but the public wasn't buying it.
