ANOTHER ODCR BUILD 6PPC UPDATE

Bill Norris

Back in the Day
Since the temps have backed off a bit I got my 6PPC back out Saturday evening to chrono it. I was thinking about back when I was working up my load and saw tight bolt lift at 29.4 gr. of VV-N133 but it was only one piece of brass. So I decided to load three more there at 29.4 gr. for a re-check and everything looked good so I tried 29.6 & 29.8 gr. To my surprise it looked really good as far as pressure goes even at 29.8 gr. and no hard bolt lift at all. So apparently something was amiss with that one piece of brass. I don't ever fall off my stool over chrono numbers but at 29.8 gr. I had M V of 3402 fps an Extreme Spread of 3 and Standard Deviation of 1.53. The group measured .131. I plan to re-check it again to see if these numbers will duplicate or come close anyway.

This is interesting. I shot Sunday and basically shot the same loads in a 6BR with a 68 Berger. My barrel is 28", however.
29.7.......3429......ES 9.7
30.0........3456......ES 7.9
30.6.........3511......ES 10.2 This was the best group at .190"

I have a pound of N133 2022 Lot 029. I'm using it in the 7mm BR with Berger 140 VLD. I'm getting surprisingly high velocities. 125 fps more that what the Sierra Manual suggests. Accuracy and pressure (case capacity keeps me out of trouble) are okay. It'll be interesting to see what results I'll get when this runs out and I get a new lot.
