In the early hours of this morning the age old sound of spring rumbled in the distance, marching slowly across the plains until droplets of rain on our roof assured us that the wind swept land of late would finally be blessed with moisture.
As I lay in bed, ever so thankful for this gift from above, I thought of that night some years ago when my camera was positioned and focused on a poignant scene in far West Texas, and my hoping beyond hope that a gathering storm to the east would offer something more than murmuring thunder as the curtain of night fell across the desert.
The exposure was a long one, about 60 seconds, so I took a chance and opened the shutter on a wing and a prayer. As I swept the stone covered graves of so many resting souls with my hand held light, the desert storm seemed to have heard my silent wish, offering that extra element that converts an image from the level of good to that of greatness!
The storm this morning offered thunder and rain but little to no lightning, and that was just fine. Like that night in the West Texas desert, when I put my camera away, thankful for lightning when I wished for it the most, this morning I closed my eyes and gave thanks for this much needed moisture so needed here in our Texas Rolling Plains!
Wishing all a great week!
