Another Model Seven does the job.......

Finally got a few minutes to try this rifle out. 348 yards on the laser....not a bad shot for me!!! I have to confess though, I didn't plan on a head shot, that was about all I could see. I held on him for a while waiting for him to get out of what looked like a depression. When he finally moved some it was just his shoulders and up showing so I gave it a try. Didn't really know I hit him, he kinda dropped out of sight.....shoulder deep back down the hole. What's the old saying...even a blind hog will find an acorn once in a while!!!P4160040.JPG
Custom claro walnut stock {that needs checkered, also when I get time!} 26" cut rifled Muller Worx barrel, Calvin Elite trigger and a Vortex Razor LH 3-15 scope.

Edit: I guess I better confess another thing...I was really set up on a den about 85 yards away!!! Of course that one wouldn't show.

Looks like a nice build. What’s the chambering?

Oooops!!! Sorry about that!!Thanks for the reply sir. It's a 223 with a 1-in-12 twist. I am running 50 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips and 25.5 grains of Benchmark powder. CCI SRP and Lake City brass. I chambered the barrel with a Dave Manson standard nothing special off the shelf reamer. It worked great in the first 223 I chambered probably 20 years ago and I am still using it!! The rifles always seem to shoot, so I figure why change. It has to get dull one day though.

Nice build, fat ground hog too.
Props on your load,
I also run 25gr benchmark under 55 & 60gr bullets, with great accuracy.

Yeah, that was a fat hog...no teats being nursed on though. I really hate to kill them this time of year, but this is on our farm where wifey keeps her rather expensive horses. I am charged with getting rid of the hole drilling vermin. All horse idiots have this severe phobia about their horse stepping in a groundhog hole and breaking a leg. I am not gonna say it cant happen, but I aint seen it in the 122 years of our marriage...every second of which she's had at least one horse. I usually just tell her I am killing them, and honestly, I didn't think I'd hit this one at that range.
I am going to try benchmark with the 64 grain Nosler Bonded Performance bullets.

Thanks for all the nice comments and likes!!! I have to say fellas that I really wish I was posting photos of my "other" Model Seven and a big ol' black bear.....unfortunately, all I can post right now is the rifle:P3300020.JPG
This one is a 7mm-08 with a 1-in-8 twist no. 1 contour Pac-Nor Polygonal, HS Precision stock, Calvin Elite trigger and 2-10 Vortex Razor LH.

Nice gun! It’s funny what I’ve gotten used to! That barrel looks so skinny!o_O

Thank you, Josh!!! Yes sir, a number one contour is pretty skinny. I am not used to it either...I pick it up and I want to go fly fishing!! This is one of those odd ball barrels you hear about every now and then. What I mean is that it's a button rifled {supposed to impart stress} very thin barrel, which is of course also supposed to make it that much worse.
Yet, it just about puts Hornady Interlock 154 grain bullets in the same hole at 100. Typically, one would opt for a single point cut rifled barrel in a thin contour because, I am sure you already know, that is the least stressful way to rifle a barrel. I actually found this blank and bought it for a very good price. I doubt I would have ever ordered one like it for full price.

I mean no offense at all by this, but if that barrel were any thinner, we could observe twist rate! ;)

Nice shot. That's what it's all about. Plus just getting out in the country.
