another chambering question

Anyway, my lathe has an A1-5 spindle nose. I put a 1" spacer between 4 jaw and back plate and made that a spider. It is 6" from front of the chuck jaws. That's how I will handle short barrels and actions for blueprinting. For longer barrels, I have a spider on outboard side of spindle.

Now, that is an excellent idea! Would you care to share a picture of it? I'd like to see it.

Huh, that seems pretty slick, though it seems like you might have quite a bit of unsupported barrel hanging out to get past the jaws on your chuck. Do you dial in with the spider and then close the jaws before turning to provide a bit of extra support?

This is the only picture I have right now. It has a 2" through hole in the center for barrel to pass through. In this picture it is missing the 4 jacking bolts used to align the short barrels or actions, but you get the idea.

It is 6" from the spacer to the front of the jaws. I simply insert short barrel, clamp it with 4 jaw using copper wire around the barrel to allow barrel to pivot and also use the spider between the 4 jaw and the 4 jaw to indicate barrel (or action).
