Another 17 hornet question

I am contemplating buying a cz 527 varmint in 17 hh. I have searched back through a few years of past posts and one thing that kept coming up was the poor quality brass. Has this been resolved or is it still a problem?
The other question I have is about the accuracy. In pasts posts there are several comments about how well their rifle shoots, but no numbers,2s, 3s 4s etc. just comments like ,shoots great, very accurate, lights out and so on. would you guys that actually measure your groups share your thoughts on just how accurate this little round really is. Thank you.
Dan

I have been shooting a 17 AH, the wildcat it came from, for many years. The 22 Hornet neck have always been thin, but when necked down do get a hair thicker. My rifle, a Bullberry barrel on a Contender shoots high 2`s low 3`s with 19 gr. Calhoon bullets loaded to the max. If your looking for a good little groundhog or pd round that is not very loud, I highly recommend it. As for the CZ 527, I have one in 204 and love it. I will shoot the 32 gr. Sierra`s in the 3`s and the 32 Hornady`s an 39 Seirras in the 4`s.

I just picked up a used cz 527 varmint in 17 hornet and shot it for the first time yesterday. All I had was hornady factory loads in the 20 gr v max and the 15.5 gr ntx. I mounted my old 4-12 leupold and sighted in an inch high at 100yds. At 100 I could easily put 5 shots in 1/2" groups with 4 of those touching in a tight little cluster probably in the low 3s. At 200 I shot a 3 shot group and the bullets dropped dead on point of aim. I was amazed when I walked down and saw nice little 3/4" group. The 15.5 gr bullets shot equally as well at 100 yards but I ran out of time to try them at 200. Keep in mind this is with factory ammo. I can't wait to start reloading for it. It is indeed a very sweet shooting little rifle and cartridge.

When reloading for this one start low and go up 1/10 gr. powder at a time. This little round goes from safe to big boom very quickly. Been shooting the 17 AH for a lot of years and love it.

I did not see your question about bad brass addressed. Hornady fixed their 17 HH brass problem (primer pockets) at least 18 months ago. I believe hey changed the vendor who was making it.

Hornady may have "fixed" their brass problem 18 months ago but there must still be plenty of ammo out there with bad primer pockets.
A fellow recently bought 750 rnds. of Hornady 17 Hornet ammo from Midway to have ammo on hand until he has time to reload the brass. All the primer pockets were bad.
He contacted both Midway and Hornady about the issue.
Midway refused to let him return the ammo and Hornady says there is nothing they can do.
Hornady also told him the brass is not safe to reload. DUH...
They staked in the primers in the loose pockets.
They also told him they were not that concerned because only 10% of shooters reload.
I know of a few that got 17 Hornet ammo with oversize primer pockets.
The empty brass does not have the same issue.
On the up side, Winchester and Federal are both making ammo for the 17 Hornet.
Be careful in loading this cartridge. It is very touchy but worth the effort, as it a great shooter....dale
