annealing

There are many people who swear by annealing every firing.. I don't see anything wrong with that postulation at all. However, I have found that if I anneal BEFORE the first firing, by that I mean on virgin brass, I will only have to anneal every third firing. For myself, I have found no increase in consistency or decrease in accuracy by annealing every 3rd time>>IF I anneal virgin brass. NOW a good question would be: "Why would you anneal virgin brass"? Excellent question! With new brass I do several things before I load: 1.) I run the brass into an expander mandrel; 2.) I then turn the necks; 3.) chamfer; 4.) anneal and then 5.) run the brass into a F/L sizer die. I have found that when I seat bullets into UN-ANNEALED NEW BRASS, I get inconsistent neck tension. I have also found that if I fire UN-ANNEALED NEW BRASS, it needs annealing before the second loading. However, if I anneal the new brass, I get consistent neck tension for 2 more firings>>>>Then I anneal again! I know this sounds a bit convoluted, it works and works very well for me.

I normally anneal after every firing. Recently when loading at the range, a friend that I had annealled some cases for reloaded the same cases several times. After the second loading, the seating pressure on the Arbor Press was noticeable different. To me, the neck tension changed at that point.

Well, I spent a bunch of money on my Bench Scorce and I LOVE to use it......So... Based on those two facts, I gotta say YES!!!
