Annealing tip for propane torch?

I saw this somewhere, can't find it now of course. the tip is a circular one, with orifices pointing to the center of the circle.

Ostensibly you just put it over the neck, and it is heated evenly till ready to quench.

since I have no need for the high volume system, this would be ideal. Anyone who knows this gadget please tell me, thanks.

There are a couple versions of a looped torch-tip that have been offered for sale. One is sold by Todd Kindler through his Woodchuck Den Shop, www.woodchuckden.com .

I continue to turn cases in a case holder powered by a cordless drill until neck just begins to turn red, then release it into pan of cold water. I hold neck about 1/2" from flame. Would the device described above be an improvement?

If you have the money or can get a couple guys to go in with you, or club, etc., you really should try the Ken Light annealing machine. I just got mine and it is great.

As the link on the main pages show, it uses rotating wheels of the thickness necessary for what brass you are annealing. The wheel has a center reservoir for boiling water which preheats the cases to approximately 212F as they rotate around. It uses two torches to give even heat for the required duration. It is not only important to heat brass to a certain temperature, but also to keep it there for a specified time to attain proper annealing.

I chose the Bernz-O-Matic JTH-7 torch heads that were recommended. They are a bit pricey at $30+/- each, but consist of a brass head with about 3' of rubber hose to the screw-on attachment for the can of gas. The flame from these torches does not have the usual point of blue flame but, instead, have a sort of blow torch flame that spreads the heat out over a broader area and it flows around the cases beautifully as they rotate past the torches.

After a little experimentation at adjusting the heat of the first torch to bring the case neck up to temp and the second one to hold it there, this thing is amazing in the consistency and thoroughness of the annealing it does. The cases have the "Lapua look", just as Ken explains in his instructions.

I think so because you could use water as a heatsink. I've been using one of Todd's tools for about 10 yrs and it works great for small batches of cases.

Thanks, will call Todd's number. Seems like the technique was to stand the cases in a pan of water and just tip them over when heated properly.

I primarily shoot PDs and just can't justify the fancy system, although I like the concept. I would only use the darn thing once a year, LOL.

Halfmile,
If you have a problem getting one let me know and I'll sell you mine for a little bit. I don't use it since springing for the Light Annealer.........
