As to Ignorance , ignorance is being uneducated. I was asking a question , I wanted to know , hence I would like to be educated in this field. I am not easily offended , I was in the Army. LOL. I was just asking what sort of groups are competitive ? Killing a deer is no big feat, they are after all rather fragile animals , much like humans. Poke a hole in the vitals and shortly they expire. To re phrase my question, what are the "competitive " groups on paper at these ranges ? As for zeroing at 500 yds , before taking a shot on breathing targets , I rarely have that opportunity. I trust my kit, I have made all the necessary preparations , I take the shot dependent on these . I will not say that I have never missed , but the misses are very rare. I take my shots very seriously. I'm not punching holes in paper, I am punching holes in living breathing creatures that were put here for our stewardship, God set this up , I didn't. I feed my family with these creatures, I take this very seriously. Ignorance is a temporary situation. Never let a day go by without learning something.

What is competitive is hitting a small DOT at distance while contending with switching winds, mirage, perhaps rain, whatever the day brings. It is competitive, not to be confused with hunting where you might lay in wait to ambush an unsuspecting animal with a very large area to hit and make a clean ethical kill. It's something a vast majority of hunters would benefit from before attempting to clearly kill a breathing animal. The two activities while overlaping are very differenit. I can tell you from 60 years of hunting experience that while both require work and dedication to excel at, I found it much easier to become skillful at killing deer than becoming skillful at competing across the country with skilled marksmen and women. Your comment comes from ignorance. Try it, you just might enjoy it. Season is 12 mo. every year.
So its almost like hunting ? Except without the blood ?
