An unusual rifle project

I recently came into a Marlin MR7 in .270 the owner could never get it to group and we did some trading. The rifle is mostly a Winchester 70 with a Remington style barrel and a Ruger bolt handle. As I have no interest in .270 I decided to build it in 30-06. After tearing it apart I quickly realized why it would not group, only one bolt lug had contact, the receiver face was out by .020 etc... I fully blue printed the action including recutting the threads, lugs, receiver face and bolt lugs all true. I machined a new 27" Douglas XX barrel 1:11 twist and set head space. I cut muzzle threads and added a Trinity brake. I Cerakoted the barrel and inleted the stock for the larger barrel. I glassed in the action, free floated it and finally performed a nice trigger job. I removed the aluminum scope bases (crap) and ordered a new steel rail and scope. Turned out very nice and traditional looking. Should be a good meat gun!

I got an MR7 a few years ago in trade for some work. It was unfired, .270 Win. I ended up selling it to a friend of mine whose boy had just finished up hunter's safety. That gun was shooting sub-MOA on day one with factory ammo! Kinda wish I had tried it out before selling it, but I'm glad the boy got himself a shooter. I thought the MR7 felt like a nicely made rifle, much like the older M77's, M70's and 700's. I'm surprised yours was so out of whack, but it sounds like you got it all sorted out. Should be a fine meat gun indeed!
