Me: RCBS Chargemaster, please dispense 51.1 grains of IMR 4955

CM: 51.2 grains

Me: (dumping .1 gr back, load round, replace pan) 51.1 grains, please...

CM: 51.2 grains

Me: (repeat previous)

CM: 51.2 grains

Me: (dumping .1 gr back) cancel that, please instead dispense 51.0 grains...

CM: 51.0 grains

Me:

CM:

Me: (knocking .1 gr worth of kernels off, replace pan)

CM: 51.0 grains

Are electronics female?

Too Funny, My used CM 1500 hits the mark every throw, I did change the settings to what I think were from a Bulletin page here on AS. I also put a an aluminum insert into the tube. Touch slower to trickle at the very end but man it changed the performance to nail the desired grain weight to perfection. Well as perfect as a .1 measuring tool can vs .01 tools I suppose. But no more overthrows.

Which insert are you folks using? I tried the straw trick, which helped with certain powders but seemed to hurt with others. I also tried a cutoff shoulder and neck from a .243 case too. I might go back to that for the time being. I did monkey with the settings to slow it down some. It's always the last "bump" that takes it over. Is there a setting to increase time between "bumps". I think that might help a lot.

My 1500 will occacionally drop a tenth heavy with IMR4198 even with an insert. Believe the irregular kernels are why as I don't have that problem with other powders.

I have a metal insert, forget where I found it.

I got an aluminum one off ebay as well, guy makes a large and smaller. Puts a little thread tape on it and viola. The smaller port does not hurt the speed for the first of the three dispensing stages. Works well at the third stage to trickle the final kernels without me having to touch anything.

Depending on the powder the trickle dump is sometimes to big so the last trickle dump overshoots. This is where programing and dump tube mods come into play. I use both and seldom have issues.

I was happy with this MK Machining option. You’ll need to measure your drop tube and order the correct ones.

Cannot find the photos with the green straw that worked very well, the exposed end was cut in points to act like a trickle and then by inserting the straw deeper it slowed the flow and pulling it outward increased the flow, Worked well. But here is the current aluminum reducer that is working extremely well with updated parameter settings. The straw would close up the port back in the tube where it collected powder, has to be the larger milkshake diameter straw to fit perfect IMHO.

I am using these settings currently. As stated before the trickle end speed is slower but it has the main pour quick, slowing to the second stage then the final trickle. Give it a try. May help more than you know. can always record your current settings and put it back the way it was or adjust these settings to your likely by test driving the machine.

Have you verified with a more accurate scale?

My 1500 is all over the place.

Set for 28.5gr and verified on a FX-120i. It threw a bunch right on and some as low as 27.9gr and some as high as 29.2gr and several more were more than =/- 0.2 over or under out of 30 loaded.

I have checked my ChargeMaster Lite against my Denver Instruments scale, which has .01 grain resolution.
It’s good for +- .1 grain, which is better than any mechanical powder thrower I have.

In other words, if the ChargeMaster Lite throws 35 grains, the Denver Scale might say 34.9 or 35.1. Often it hits dead on.

Have to remember dispensers like the Chargemaster read at a +/-.1 variance, 51.16 shud probably round up, as 52.0, 51.14 shud round down, as 51.0, 50.96 shud be 51.0. Using Varget as an example, at .04gr, if the count winds up at 51.12, it shud read good at 51.1, add one granule, hit 51.16, reads 52.0. Seems to work that way on mine anyway, I have a Chargemaster 1500 and an FX120. Bigger powder granules will make a bigger difference, in some cases, 2 granules will be over .1gr in total.

I used a Chargemaster for years. My solution to accuracy improvement was to insert a 5.7x28 case with the b ase cut off into the charging spout. Worked wonders. Finally moved up to the MatchMaster and love it.
As mentioned a slight program chance can enhance the function of any of these women. Whatta Hobby!
