AMP AZTEC Code for 6mm BR Peterson Brass?

I just bought 200 pieces of Peterson 6mm BR brass (Lot #:N013, QC#:QC061421). I do not plan to turn necks. Eventually I will be annealing these with the AMP, but my extreme OCD requires me to ask if anyone else has AZTEC codes for this lot or any other Peterson 6mm BR brass. Having 199 pieces of brass? The horror!

I did a search, and did not see that anyone else had posted results. Likewise, there is no standard code for Peterson brass on the AMP website, nor an AZTEC code on the Peterson website. If you already have a code, either standard or AZTEC, please let me know. Worst case, of course I can burn one myself. I figured it's at least worth asking first. Thanks!

Take the column header cell marked "A" and click on the cell to get the sort window to show, then sort the sheet. This will allow you to see all the cartridges that start with 6 together so you don't have to scan randomly throughout the whole sheet.

It gives a perspective when you study the different batches and see how the dimensions, including the AZTEC Codes, vary with the batches. Peterson is known to be pretty disciplined stuff, but even with that said you will want to burn your own AZTEC value based on what we are seeing here. There is a batch at 138.3 grains that gives a code of 143, and another batch at 136.8 with an AZTEC Code of 137.

You could risk a linear interpolation using those two values and the average weight of your batch, but this is up to you. I would be curious to hear what a sample of 20 or 30 of your cases weigh and what the SD of those weights runs.

Yep, I already figured it out, including finding my exact lot #. I use excel a lot at work and at home. I am just not as used to poorly-organized, inconsistent spreadsheets, however.

I fully realize that to get things perfectly precise, I would need to burn my own case. I am a sling shooter though, not a benchrest shooter, so I should be good to go. Thanks.

It looks like the spreadsheet was what I call stream-of-consciousness. The value of that data is that it shows the batch to batch issues and how even a top brand still has more variation than we would like. My Lapua and Alpha data shows the same issues, so you can count on doing this for every batch, or at least weighing them before you assume they will process the same.

BTW, sling shooters need all the accuracy we can get since we don't get to shoot from a rest even though our target rings are not the same. My XTC 600 yard ammo didn't make me happy till I got lots of details under control, and to my own detriment those were lessons I had already learned decades earlier. I would say you need all the same discipline used in F-Class and LR BR to avoid frustration. If you shoot past 600, you don't want to make assumptions on anything.

I would still weight at least 30 and start keeping track of those stats over the seasons and years. If we live long enough and that effort doesn't pay off, I will buy your dinner.

I know you mean well, but I have plenty of experience shooting 1000-yard matches. Maybe when I'm retired, I'll have time for stuff like you are suggesting. For now, I'll just focus on becoming a better wind reader!

My original purpose for starting this thread was to get the AZTEC code for my new lot of Peterson brass. Mission accomplished!
