I wrote an email to Alex Findlay, President of AMP Annealing regarding the sort function of the new Aztec software. Posted here is my note and his reply:

Subject: Premature question
Alex, I’ve heard that the new Aztec software will have a sorting function. Is it too soon to ask for an explanation of that? Can I quote your answer?"
His reply:
"Hi Jeff,
The Sort mode is a work in progress. What we do know so far is that it is very valuable in identifying the correct sacrificial case when establishing the Aztec annealing program for any cartridge. That is what it was developed for. As far as wider benefits like identifying potential flyers, that we don’t know yet. We have several extremely credible laboratories which will be investigating that with us. Most top end shooters at Shot Show were very excited about the possibilities.
It is a mass comparator i.e. it compares the effect of placing the neck, shoulder and 5mm of body of different cases into the induction field. The Sort mode is very sensitive. It can easily distinguish if the pilot is backed out by 0.001” for example, or if the necks are turned.
Matt posted this brief video on Facebook today.
That batch of Norma brass was very consistent. We have seen other virgin brass with a spread from -5 to +5.
Yes, it is OK to quote that. You might also like to see Lou Murdica’s comments on Aztec.
