AMP ANNEALER/CLEANING QUESTION

I usually 1. shoot, 2. deprime & vibratory tumble, 3.bump shoulder, 4. SS clean 5. neck size & chamfer. I am happy with this.

The AMP annealer comes with a scary warning that if a SS pin dislodges from a case and reaches the inductor it will ruin it. Even with patience and thoroughness I have had maybe 2 or 3 pins out of 100's of cases surprise me when dried. I would prefer not to make a $1100 mistake!

How do you with an AMP order your steps? I don't mind how long it takes as long as it is correct. Initially I am thinking of my steps 1,2,3,5, ultrasonic & anneal.

I deprime using a Lee collet die, clean unify primer pockets, vibratory clean with corncob media, ensure case flash holes are clear and cases are blown out with a blast of compressed air. Then anneal.

Shoulder bumping (or full length sizing) and neck sizing is done after annealing. I don't use stainless media as I prefer a carbon layer in the neck. Results are extremely consistent.

Concentricity run out measures well under 0.001"on fire formed cases. New, prepped unfired brass has about 0.001" run out. Technically I'm not full length sizing as the FLS die I use has been modified to not size the necks. I neck size as a separate operation using a modified Lee collet die. My apologies for not being clear about the FLS part of of the sequence.

I do a final neck sizing prior to loading by using the LCD 3 times rotating the case 120°. This seems to work well.

You are going to have to get all the pins out regardless since even if the annealing is not damaged, you really don't want to take the chance that it goes down your barrel, lodged there and get hit by the next bullet going down the tube.

Shake the cases under water with the neck pointing down. After you dry the outside, blow dry the inside with compress air, that too will tend to remove the pins.

This is what works well for me..

(1) home from the range, first thing, into the induction annealer.
(2) full resizing and de-capping
(3) into the ultra sonic cleaner. 3 cycles. Primer pockets come out like new, brass nice and clean, inside and out.
(4) check case length, adjust if necessary, chaffer & de-burr
(5) two hours in the tumbler, (walnut media) to make them look pretty

You obviously like clean brass. I clean my brass directly from the range (it takes about a half to one full hour) in a tumbler with crushed walnut shell media. Then I inspect and partial neck size and decap. I clean the primer pockets as part of my inspection process and make sure there is no flashing on the inside of the primer flash hole. I run every case through the trimmer and the ones that trim are chamfered and lightly deburred. Priming is next then charging and finally bullets are seated after inspecting cases for low or high powder charges. The finished rounds go into a box bullets up and placed in the ammo cabinet.

I deprime and give a quick rinse in alcohol to get any loose particles out so it does not get grunge in my AMP then anneal before any other steps.

I've ordered one but don't have it yet. But my steps have been clean necks with krazy kloth, wipe clean, then anneal, then size, clean primer pockets and run nylon brush thru neck...then do it all over again. I don't expect to change any out that.

I'm of the opinion that nothing good can come from brass banging around in a tumbler.

I deprime clean in a stainless media,then put them in my rcbs media separator and hand tumble back and fourth then rinse in clean distilled water,then go thru all the steps.

I anneal first thus I combine depriming with resizing on a nicely annealed case. Indeed, this probably wouldn't be good if your case necks are very dirty but mine generally aren't...annealing every time you get good sealing of the case neck in the chamber so very little soot gets on the outside of the neck.

I don't use ss media on rifle cases any more. Tends to ding the case mouths.

UPDATE; continuous learning. i now deprime first, clean cases with scotchbrite, anneal, size in 2 steps, prime, and load.

I Shine light in my cases before I dry them in the oven. I put them all standing up and easy to see down in them. Then anneal after they dry.
