Ammo Caddie

Hello, New to this forum. I've made this ammo caddie made of HDPE plastic that holds 4 different blocks inside the stand and the blocks can be removed and replaced by removing some thumb screws. Just needing some feedback, good or bad, on if this is a good idea or not. I'm not a shooter so I've come to people that can give me the right feedback.

Thanks in advanceIMG_2476.jpgIMG_2477.jpgIMG_2478.jpgIMG_2479.jpgIMG_2480.jpg

Might be a good idea. The thumb screws aren't very good looking.
Yeah, they stick out about a 1/4 inch. I was trying to find the quickest and easiest way to change the blocks and that's all I could come up with.

You probably can't see it very good but the 2 pieces added on either side of the clock (to make the clock fit) is connected with standard screws. But I figured when your changing blocks at the range (if you do) would it be better with thumb screws or find and use a screwdriver.

I built cabinets for 35 years, I prefer wood too, but when I was approached to build this out of wood I had just sold my business most of my tools and all my spray equipment and I didn't want to go back down that road so I decided on plastic.

Thanks for your feedback, having been self employed for nearly 40 years I understand exactly what your saying.
This is one of those projects that someone says "can you build one" and you take it up as a challenge. Then you really don't know what to do with it.
I do a few things for Creedmoor Sports and they have shown some interest in it and may do something with it, but we'll see.

The blocks are not a change at the range type thing so use flush socket head cap screws- everybody has hex keys with them anyway. What cartridges are the extra blocks for? No need to engrave all the calibers on the blocks- its not attractive and not hard to figure out what they fit

.308, .223, 7mm is the 3 I have. As I said I'm really didn't know which ones was used.
I'll look into the hex head screws, again I wasn't sure if it was a change at the range type thing or not.
You all are giving me some good information.
I really haven't worked a price out yet, When I get all the information I'll narrow it down but I'm pretty sure it would be competitive with other ammo caddies

I have two suggestions:

First, I would include plates for the 284 Win if you are going to offer this. It has an "odd" body diameter and is one of the most popular calibers for something like this. The hole ID should be 0.510 or so (maybe more) for it. Maybe a little more.

Second, it seems like it would be better if the top plate slid or sat on a shelf. It looks like it is held by the side screws which would make it a three-hands operation to change.

Good luck with this.

Good idea to ask shooters and reloaders. I use the flat ones that hold 50 rounds. I don’t need a stacker or a clock on it. I can’t see myself ever buying one of these.

When you say 7mm what exactly does that mean? Since you say youre not a shooter you should probably get with a shooter and get some of the popular cases used in competition and make the caddy for those cases making sure they fit right. Its not just a straight hole, the cases have taper and different shoulder angles and you need to make sure they fit right and look straight and secure but easy to remove. Youre using the best material and the design is good it just needs tweaking to work well or youll never sell but one round of them.

Since it can hold 4 blocks, what are the 4 most popular calibers that would be used?
I can buy and measure and get that part right. I checked Bass Pro Shop a few weeks ago for what I thought would be used, but they had nothing I mean only empty shelves.

Yup, pretty much the same everywhere.....

You can find the dimensions on line for the cartridges. Finding ammo right now would be problematic. You could ask people here to send you a dummy round or old case.
