Am I fretting over nothing ?

Bought a really nice Savage 340 E 222 last week and after getting a scope on it realized the side mount carries the scope clean over the other side off center .
with a one hundred yard zero , I am wondering if this will affect a two hundred yd shot enough to cause concern ?
I was thinking about installing the 254 BKL Cantilever on the front of the reciever to center the scope over the bore .
Who makes a low profile base for it ?
Kenneth

Side mounts are no problem if the scope's optical axis is parallel to the bore. Thousands of M1D sniper rifles, Griffin and Howe and Pachmayr side mounts proved that many years ago.

Sometimes I am not good at expressing the scenario . It has the scope to the right of the bore . I was hoping someone experienced with this rifles set up would know how much affect it has on the POI at 200 yds with a 100 yd zero . As it is not parallel to the bore . Thank you for the reply , Kenneth

If you measure exactly the offset and have your point of impact the same at 100 it'll work fine . That is assuming a no wind day . Your POA is going to still be center bull but poi is going to be the amount of offset , again set with a no wind day.

This is one of those times a picture is worth 1000 words. Draw a centerline for the bore and one for the scope centerline. I think this will better help you understand.

THEORETICALLY, if you zero at 100 yds., at 200 yds., the POI will be offset to the left by the amount of the scope's offset to the left of the bore. Practically speaking, how much of a problem this is will be determined by how well your rifle groups at 200 yds. Good luck.

Put a level on it . Now shoot it level then shoot it off in both direction you will see . Larry

Thanks again , will give it a try . Only have a 100 yds here at the house for now . Will have to get ok from farmer I hunt on about target shooting at his place . Window is getting narrow as Bow season starts in two weeks .

I have two Savage 340s. My scope mounts have the scope centered over the barrel. You obviously have a different mount. Not to worry. Similar situation on early "sidesaddle" Winchester model 94 scope mounts. Scope was off to the side a little. Instead of one line of sight you will have two to consider. Elevation and Windage can be set for ONE distance. If you choose 100 yards, you will have more windage extrapolating to do the further out you shoot. My old Winchester had windage set for 200 yards. My shots were +/- 1" left to right out to 400. With the flat shooting 222, you may want to set windage for 300 or so....with a good scope with target turrets, would be easy to zero in for any distance. Normal rifle hunting scope would be minute of chuck head to 500....

Lets complicate things again.
