Aluminum bolt shroud?

I have a Bergara b 14 hmr that I have modified for PRS and am having a new Brux spun up for it in 6 gt. Any value to up grading to a stainless bolt shroud?

The Eric Cortina SS Shroud is advertised to be machined to closer tolerances than the Aluminum Factory Shroud.

I suppose you could get one and see if the threads and cocking piece is less sloppy.

If you get one, assemble the unit with no spring and see if the firing pin assembly moves freely back and forth with no detectable bind.

It has no value unless it's professionly blue printed like Speedy Gonzales does. You need the entire bolt assembly checked out. Not just part made from a different metal. Speedy removes metal in several places. It's not just maching a little better. A better tolerance on the shroud shouldn't mean much if the bolt is sloopy and the part of the pin assembly that slides in the shroud. The spring needs to be checked and FP alignment in the opening ect. Check out Speedies video on bolts.

Thats correct. Theres no drop in part thats going to fix all the issues that can happen. Most of the issues actually do not require modifying the shroud. While some guys do some tweaks in there, thats icing on the cake. The real issues usually require work on other parts. And if you tighten up one tolerance, then the rest of the parts have to be really straight or you made things worse. The ideal situation is no bind, as little friction as possible, and no slop. But your better off with slop than bind. Like most things, theres no short cut to doing this job right. Which is tearing it down, finding the problem areas, and correcting them on a case by case basis.

Thank you all for the replys I am going to wait until I get the action back and tear it down and look for binds before I do anything. The gun shot very well as a 6.5 creed until the barrel shot out. My gunsmith Terry Balding has ALOT of F class experiance so I will consult him again thanks especially Mr Wheeler taking time out of your busy day to answer I have gotten ALOT of knowledge from your site.
