Alpha & Peterson brass

In th 6 dasher I really like lapua brass but you have to FF it i know alpha & Peterson make 6 dasher brass but heard it was thicker and had less powder capacity how much of a problem is it

The last batch of Peterson brass that I purchased (6XC) was oily inside. I loaded up some rounds not realizing this. Tried to shoot the rounds in a match about a week later and had mutliple failure to fires. Checked some other previously loaded rounds in WW brass and it fired every time. Took the rounds apart with the Peterson brass and when I emptied the powder out, the powder by the primer was discolored. Reloaded with fresh powder and no problems.
I guess the lesson I learned is to wash the Peterson brass inside and out before using!

Ok good information

I've shot around 150 - 175 rounds of Petersen 6.5 Creed., Lge Primer brass and found it necessary to, use about, a 1/2 grain less with, StaBall 65 ( 43.0 grs vs the 43.5 grs that's stated in Hogdon Data ) with the Horn. 143 ELD-X's.
Total Velocity Loss was about, 30- 35 FPS from, the Max velocity, as stated by them.
Still, slightly over, 2,700 FPS so,.. NO biggie to, Me and,..YES,. I Like their Brass

ok good to know thanks

I use both brands in my 6 dasher and like them a lot! I never used Lapua brass so I developed my loads and they shoot tiny groups at midrange without a major effort. I have only 2-3 firings on them, so can't comment on longevity, but accuracy and velocity are great.

Just jumped on the dasher bandwagon, so not so much expertise to share. However I can share with you my brass capacity measurements and initial data.
Out of the box there is almost one full grain of water of capacity between the two: Alpha is 39.6 and Peterson 38.8. After a couple of firings Alpha grows to 40.5 and Peterson 39.5
Alpha in my view is more flexible because you can stuff enough H4350-class powder into it (34 grains or more), thus reaching at least 28xx fps muzzle velocity, as well as Varget and Varget-like powders (31-32 grains).
With Peterson the slower powder route is not an option, unless you crush the powder into the case with a long tube. At least this is my view, YMMV.

Ok great information wonder what difference between alpha & lapua is I know lapua has to be FF and may vary a little but would be interesting to know

I use Alpha brass exclusively for the 6 dasher... it works great for me ....no fireforming ..
Just mandrel new brass load and shoot, your favorite load of Varget or RL 15 ...or pump up tbe volume with 110 gr SMK at 3085 fps, 115 DTAC at 3020 fps....or change powders, again and run 58 gr Vmax at 4100 fps, new brass or fired brass. It's been holding up to high pressure well, so far. Use Remington 7 1/2 primers for easy primer seating.

Alpha 6 Dasher brass is outrageously consistent. I weighed 100 pieces and the extreme spread was less half a grain - .48 grains, to be precise. It does have less internal capacity. I had to adjust loads between .3 and .5 grains to achieve previous velocities in Lapua fire formed brass.

Edited to add: I weighed the whole box because I was having a difficult time believing what I was seeing! An honest-to-goodness six sigma distribution.

can't speak for Lapua, my plan is not going to FF staying the availability of Pet and Alpha.
What you may want to check is your reamer neck dia, unless you are ready to turn your brass you want at least .272 tech size in your chamber. I confirm .269 as the neck dia of a loaded round wit both Alpha and Pet (Pet is close to .270) so when the things turn gritty in the field you want to have a generous neck ( alpha legacy is .275, Manson .2725) to have it run flawlessly anyway.
My intended use is PRS 100% so BR or F-class totally different story.
Case heads in both are built to outlive barrels...

Case capacity is not enough on the Peterson I couldn't get to my node (3080) without showing pressure signs way before I got there. I've been using Alpha only for the last two seasons and it's been great I don't know if I'll go back to Lapua.
