Alpha Brass. 6ARC

Retired shooter

Gold $$ Contributor
From those with the actual usage. 6 ARC . Some thoughts about Alpha brass. Mostly case capacity, wall thickness , primer pockets. Sizing difficulties etc..

Will be used in a bolt rifle, if I ever get it.

Have another name brand brass I am having issues with. Will say no more till they reply.

Is Alpha worth extra $$$.

Thank you
To all a good day.

I use Starline right now for my 6 arc and it’s going really well. The only Alpha brass I’ve used was with my 22 Creedmoor and I wasn’t very impressed for what it costs. I ended up going with Peterson on that round. And will probably try Peterson with my 6 arc soon. I just started with Starline until I got a good feel for it.

I've been shooting a Panda with a 6ARC in short range benchrest since last April using Alpha and Peterson brass. Not had even one hic up on the Alpha or the Peterson. They will literally shoot in the same hole with the same load. I have not used the Peterson nearly as much as the Alpha. So won't comment or speculate on brass life of the Peterson compared to the Alpha which I'm very impressed with case life. JME. WD

Thank you to all that have replied.

Please. Has anyone, or can anyone answer the technical questions.
Thank you in advance.

To all a great day.

  • Case capacity is middle of the road, so not too thick and not too thin.
  • Primer pockets are annoyingly tight, I can't get a Sinclair uniformer in them and I can't seat by feel as I have to push so hard there is no feel for the crush and many get over-seated, until after they've been fired with warm loads. So I've been using the Forster Co-Ax seater on new Alpha brass for uniform .003 below flush. The upside is no loose pockets after multiple firings.
  • They are no easier or harder to size than any other brass.
  • I find the necks are materially thicker near the shoulder than at the mouths. So I end up turning them, although I don't know if it's really necessary and many shooters don't do it.
  • Uniformity of weight and external dimensions is excellent.
  • Well-annealed from the factory. Almost zero spring back on neck bushings or mandrels.
  • Quality of the raw material must be good, as there are no visible inclusions in the brass.
This is based on 6mm GT and 308 Win, both SRP, so it would likely apply to other cases such as 6 ARC.

RS, When I had questions about capacity, etc and especially care and cleaning of their primer pockets etc, I emailed my questions directly to Alpha and was answered within a day or two by one of their technicians.. I was very glad I did especially regarding their primer pockets. I figured I would get better information straight from the source, and I did.

Your other original question I failed to answer was if it was worth the extra $$$. Yes. WD

Thank you sir.
I agree with you Sir, go straight to the source. No should know their product better, and have the most experience with how to work with it.

Unfortunately in this situation the source, (or there customer service) has been extremely slow to respond. One email back, with generic questions. Have called them 3 times, straight to voicemail. Never a reply.

As I stated in the original post I'm not going to make any public statements as to the suppliers name,
to many, have great things to be said about them. Sometimes product goes out the door, not the best quality it could be. Stuff happens.

To all a great evening.
