Alliant Power Pro 2000-MR for 6 Dasher

I did a search and didn't find anything. Closest I was a thread on it from a while back concerning 6BR and not much to go on.
I now use this powder in 308 with 185 Hybrids. Velocity from 24" 1 in 10 hits 2770 FPS and accuracy has been very good out to 1250 yards. It is slightly slower (best I can tell) than Varget but no where near as slow as H4350.
Just wondering if you've tried it yet and what kind of velocity/accuracy you got.

I
Which should actually make it more workable in 6 Dasher with 105 Hybrids.
Just need some input before I start loading for testing.
I use it in my 708 & 308, works great in both, you might consider CFE223 as well. My buddies shoot the Dasher while I shoot the 6 Creed so don't have any idea
where to start. I'd imagine the case would be quite flll, though.

I use it in 308 and it's great. Liking IMR4451 in 7MM08 and tried CFE223 in Dasher but didn't like it.
I called Allianz and they say this powder burn rate is close to RL17 but the pressure is very different so not to go off other data. They had nothing for 2000MR in 6BR or Dasher. They did tell me RL16 should be in stores next week or week after and it is showing great promise.

yup, that RL16 very well might work. How much CFE did you try?

In the Dasher, I believe that MR-2000 will provide some of the highest velocities with the most manageable pressures (with the 105-108 gr bullets) of just about every powder commercially available in the marketplace. I did a fair amount of chrono and other testing with MR-2000 in our 6mmAR Turbo 40 Imp. (a smaller capacity 6mm cartridge with 37.5 gr water capacity) and if speed with low pressures with the bigger 6mm bullets is the objective, that delivered better than any other powder we tried. Since the Dasher is still a smaller cartridge (around 40 gr water weight capacity), MR-2000 powder should provide "hot rod" performance out of a Dasher, without excess pressures with the bigger 105-108 gr bullets.

IMO - it's burn rate, based on my testing of it, is akin to H4350, but it is very compact, since it's a ball powder, so you can get a lot in a small case - - ergo why it would be a great matchup with the Dasher and heavy 6mm bullets.

Especially with the new Norma brass, that might be a great powder - and just based on this thread, I intend to do some testing with it in the Dasher

Some people don't like ball powders for certain target uses, especially since they are typically more temperature and humidity sensitive. I did find with MR-2000 that I had better results with small rifle magnum primers (CCI #450's), especially when it came to ES and SD numbers.

Certainly worth a try - - we'll see where it goes from there - - based on the testing I did with the 6mmAR Turbo 40 Imp., I will start up the Dasher testing with around 32 gr of MR-2000 and the 105-108 gr bullets and take it from there.

Thank You Robert! Let the testing begin!

If I have time, I have the following loads made up and will chrono them today out of a 30" Bartlein 5R barrel, 7.5" twist:

New Norma Dasher brass, out of the box, "load it and shoot it" style.
CCI #450 primers
Berger 105 Hybrid bullets
.020" jump (in new Norma Dasher chamber with the reamer Bullets.com sells, that put's the cartridge OAL with the Berger 105 Hybrids around 2.410" - 2.415")

32 gr MR-2000
33 gr MR-2000
34 gr MR-2000
35 gr MR-2000

As soon as I have results I will post them.

Robert

I use it in my 22 Dasher with the 75 Amax, but I don`t have any 6 Dasher info.........:(

Results of today's testing of MR-2000 in Dasher - - hot off the chrono tape
30" Bartlein 5R barrel, 7.5" twist
New Norma Dasher brass, out of the box, "load it and shoot it" (no brass prep at all).
CCI #450 primers
Berger 105 Hybrid bullets (naked - not coated with anything)
.020" jump (in new Norma Dasher chamber with the reamer Bullets.com sells, that put's the cartridge OAL with the Berger 105 Hybrids around 2.410" - 2.415")

32 gr MR-2000 - - MV=2791 fps - - ES=21 - - SD=8
33 gr MR-2000 - - MV=2885 fps - - ES=24 - - SD=8
34 gr MR-2000 - - MV=2938 fps - - ES=17 - - SD=6 (excellent accuracy & no excess pressure)
35 gr MR-2000 - - MV=3009 fps - - ES=16 - - SD=6 (excellent accuracy & no excess pressure)

COMMENT: This MR-2000 powder makes the 6mm Dasher, with this Norma brass, a real "hot rod" performer with the 105 gr bullets. When I shot the 32 and 33 grain loads, the groups were a bit loose so I thought "oh well, too bad" but then I hit 34 & 35 grains and things tightened right up and so did the ES and SD numbers. All charges were thrown and all numbers represent 5 shot strings.

Robert, those are the numbers I had in my head. My chamber is not for the new Norma so I'll back down a little and work back toward seeing 3000 FPS.
Thanks!

Have any of you guys tried this powder in 6.5x47 with 130s to 140s? I sure would like to find a ball powder that works well for that combo. Don't know if it would be dense enough/ spark well enough.

I also wonder what the results would be with a heavier bullet like the 115 DTAC. Could you get the 115 moving fast enough with a small case like the Dasher?

I shot in my 6BRX, it was ok, rl-17 did better for me with the 115s and 117s.
In the 6.5x47 with 140s, it is great, 3000 fps no problem, long barrel needed.

That's crazy fast! How long of a barrel are we talking? Is accuracy on par with H4350? That's about 200fps faster than I'm getting in 26-28" tubes with H4350...
