Can anyone give me the specifics on Reloader 22 vs Reloader 23? Which of the new powders corresponds to Reloader 19?

Thanks.

I shot RL-22 for years in my 7mmRem Mags. It is an EXCELLENT powder for hunting. It is fairly temp sensitive, so for all-year-long competition it would not work unless you develop loads for all 4 seasons! It gives incredible accuracy and velocity. It is a bit slower than H4831sc, almost right on top of IMR 7828 in burn rate. Like all the "old", as in RL-19, 22 and 25, it is very dirty! So for hunting it is superlative! Conversely, RL-23, although Alliant states that it is a bit slower than RL-22, that is hogwash! It is closer to RL-19 than to RL-22! Tit-for-tat in most applications, it is just a mite faster than H4831sc. It burns "fairly" clean, certainly cleaner than RL-22! It is very temp-stable! I have shot it in Arizona from the 40s to 112 on a day with no ill effects! It produces LOADS of velocity and has the propensity for excellent accuracy to boot!
As far as how RL-23 relates to RL-19, it is only slightly slower and closer to RL-19 than it is to RL-22! However, RL-19 is much dirtier than RL-23. That's my 2 cents.

That is a nickle's worth! Thanks much.

As above, thanks Dots. If I ever get my 6.5-06 barrel back on my action I am going back to my tried and true cartridge. Looking for an improvement over H4831. Not sure it's possible but I will look at RL23 instead of RL22.

Yes KMart, all of our Reloder(R) rifle powders contain decoppering agent, with the exception of Reloder 17.
Thank you for your interest in our products.
Shoot well,
Paul
So Paul...

Do you have any suggestions for loading RL-17 and RL-19 in the following

284 Win with a 150 grain Nosler E-tip

257 Roberts with a 80 grain Barnes TTSX BT

Thanks

So with that being said, what RL powder will give me the velocity I get from RL 17 and have a decoppering agent. RL26?? I shoot this in a 6.5x47, from a 26" Brux barrel

Hello Bulletbob, I would like to help you, but I'm not sure I can because we don't test 6.5x47, and it may be that Reloder(R) 17 can't be bested in your application. Reloder 26 may or may not work, depending on the specifics of your load and system. I would also suggest looking at Reloder 16, since 17 and 16 are pretty close burn speed wise in many applications. You may not be able to obtain higher velocity, but Reloder 16's design is so efficient you may get pretty close.
Perhaps someone with more hands on experience with this system will come along and elaborate further.
Shoot well,
Paul

I have a good hunting load for my .30-06 using 60.1g of RL22 pushing a 180g Sierra ProHunter 2,740 fps. I’ll defer to @ShootDots excellent summary on the powder comparisons. I concur with him on it being a bit dirty

Alliant Reloading;
After looking at your load guide I didn't see any load info for a 338 Win Mag and was wondering if it isn't recommended for use in that cartridge?

Which powder are you referring to truck driver?
We have data on several of our powders on the Alliant Powder(R) site, including Reloder 16 and 17. On our Speer site we have additional data for those bullets. Reloder 23 performance was held back by the amount we could load at SAAMI overall lengths, but Reloder 26 generated excellent velocities.

Good luck,
Paul

I found RL23 to be a little different than Shootdots, I was using RL22 in 2-280AI with 140's and could only get to 3180 FPS with one before I hit sticky bolt lift at 62.00 of RL22. Now I'm at 63.0 RL23 3230 everything the same except RL23 and no pressure signs. Maybe my lot is slower I dont know but that's my experience.

Sorry I thank faster then I can type and for forgot to mention it was RL26. I have a good load with RL 17 with a 210gr Nosler PT but after seeing what it would do velocity wise in a 300 wm I was wonder what advantages it might give me in the 338 wm.
Thanks for responding Paul.

edit to add
Thanks Paul I saw it at the Speer sight.

I like Re23 and 4000MR. I use the Re23 in 6mm Rem (87&105), 6mm AI (87&105), 6.5-06 (120), .280 Rem (139&154), & .300 Win (178). I see no appreciable difference in loads with Re 22 but I use Re23 because it is less expensive at MLGS by $2-$3 per pound. My worked up loads are within 1 grain (plus or minus). Works just fine at any temp and measures reasonably well.

As for 4000MR, I use it primarily in the .243 W (87&105) 6mm Rem (87), 6mm AI (87) and .300 W (178). I am starting to work up 4000MR loads for the .280 (139&150), 6.5X47L (140) and .375-.338 (300).

Being an amateur I have no testing equipment other than a simple chronograph and examination of fired cases. 4000MR is a relatively dense powder and fits well in small cases like the 6.5X47L; so far velocities are in the 2,600 fps range with 140's (might try 147's). Load density is slightly greater than 100% in both 6.5X47 (140) and .375-.338(300). 4000 MR measures just great and appears to be sort of like Re19 in charge weights.

CCI 200's, CCI 41's and CCI 250 are used depending.

Re 23 has given me outstanding results in the 6.5-06. 4000MR has given me outstanding results in the .243 and .300 Win - loads almost equal those provided by Alliant.
