ALASKAN HUNTER WITH NEW HOBBY

Hello Gentlemen, Let me introduce myself, I am an Alaskan hunter, I have been doing my own hand loading for years and am new to this 1000 yard shooting game. I am currently looking for suggestions from some of you old salts on a new load for my rifle. I started with a Remington Sendoro in 300 ultra mag. it has had the action trued, accurized. factory barrel hand lapped, it has the HS Precision stock. I am putting on an 8x32 benchrest from Night Force. I am planning to use Sierra 220 grain match kings. I am undecided on powder. and thats the problem. none of the data I am finding seems to point to a good powder. the manuals are all over the place with none of them pointing to 1 good powder. I'M thinking H 4381 OR H 4350. Any good recipes would be appreciated.

i think a much slower powder would give much higher vol. h1000, h869, h50bmg, r25, etc.

I shot Benchrest with a Sendero in 300 Ultra in the 1000 yard stock gun class in Iowa. I've used Retumbo in three different barrels with great results. Hodgens designed Retumbo mainly for the big Ultras and Weatherbys. I'd let your barrel tell you what bullet to shoot. Because of barrel life concerns, I only tried 180's, 190's, and 200 SMK's, all moly plated, and settled on 190's at just under 3300. The second time out, I set the range record, which since has been bested, but still pleased with a 5.4". They are definitely a hammer.

2nd vote for Retumbo, but many like R25 also, try both....

Retumbo - With mine, 200 gr bullets and heavy charges of Retumbo produced excellent accuracy. The .300 RUM & Retumbo go really well together.

Retumbo is the powder for the Ultra Mag Cartridge. Others will work, but Retumbo is the best and is much cleaner burning.

It's counter intuitive, but try some of the non magnum primers like the Federal 210's.

And whatever you do, try a box of 210 grain bullets in either Berger VLD or Sierra Match King. These are much better bullets than the old 220's.
